Community Reviews

Miracle Gro in ground garden soil is being treated as a basic bulk option for beds and landscaping, but the main draw is only the low sticker price. The bag size is 0.75 cubic feet, which makes the unit price higher than it first appears, and the listing has also been called misleading because the image and checkout pricing do not always match. Quality concerns include shrinkflation from the older 1 cubic foot bags, plastic and other garbage in some bags, and reports that it can be too nitrogen heavy for plants or pots. A workable but not standout soil if you are watching both volume and quality.

The deal can be improved by comparing unit pricing against other retailers and bag sizes.

The soil may work as a soil conditioner or amendment rather than a standalone planting medium.
nskmda
Lowe's may price match Home Depot, which can help keep the effective price aligned.
oh_dannyboy
Some shoppers report finding the advertised $2 price in their area as $2.29, which still provides a clear per-bag checkout reference.

Quality issues can occur, including reports of plastic found in the bag and bags containing a lot of garbage.
PowerfulCircle266 iWatch
The pricing display can be confusing because the image may still show $2.29 while the checkout price shows $2.
vo_danh
The 0.75 cubic feet bag size can be too small after spreading, especially for flower beds or shrubs.
truongvoky
The soil mix may not be suitable for container use because it is not a great option for pots.

Common Questions (4)

The advertised price can show as $2 in one place and $2.29 in the image or local listing. Some shoppers also report the deal logic changing with quantity, so it is worth checking the final cart price before buying.

Several alternatives are priced better per cubic foot, including Walmart generic soil at $2.50 delivered and Menards 1 cu ft bags at $2.71 after rebate. Home Depot also had the same Miracle-Gro product for $2.00 per bag recently, making this Lowe's price less compelling.
BrightFeather280 gewf631 garyham100 garyham100
Yes. The bag is 0.75 cubic feet, and the smaller size is easy to miss if you only notice the $2 sale price. At $2.29, that works out to about $3.05 per cubic foot.
dcguy703 truongvoky gewf631
No. It is a soil mix meant for in-ground use, and it should not be used in pots. For containers, a different potting mix is the better choice.

$2.29 for 0.75cu.ft. is $3.05/cu.ft.
Menards has the 1cu.ft. bags for $2.71 after rebate

Agree about the Walmart soil assessment. I've been getting about 20% of the bags I buy from Scott's and Miracle Gro as garbage

Lowes printed/online advertisement last week was misleading. On the front page, it showed buy 3, get three free...but no price. On the second page, it showed the dirt as 2.29 each. So going into the store to buy 12, the cashier rang me up for all 12. When I informed her about the ad, she said the price was correct and since the dirt was on sale for half price, it was buy three, get three free...she apparently had been approached by other buyers. I said that was misleading and she agreed.

Thanks, great deal!

It's an okay deal. Home Depot had it on sale last week for 2.00 each like it does every year.

I still see B1G1 on the ads 4/23- 5/6

I think technically, it's buy one get one at $4.38 a bag, but they are actually priced at $2.29 a bag so that you don't have to get multiples of two to get the sale price. But it is VERY misleading!

As long as you make drainage holes at the bottom of the pot, like you're supposed to, it's fine. Maybe even add a little bit of perlite. Been using garden soil in pots for years now.
