Requires a subscription to operate, so hard pass unless someone knows of alternative firmware that can be placed on this device, as it sounds interesting and well-specced.

EDIT: Discussion regarding it https://forums.woot.com/t/juniper.../2367052/2

Uh no it's a terrible deal, it costs $100+ per year for the license. Then, in 3 years, after you've sunk $300+ into this thing, it will reach end of support and they'll stop offering the subscription.
I wouldn't take this thing for free.

I use a 386/33 so it should be fine for the speeds I need

Yes it requires subscription but you can get a 90day trial and set it up and leave it as is. You won't be able to modify settings after but how often do you modify APs?

Are firmware updates locked out if the trial ends? That would be my concern, that a vulnerability came out and the device would be left out to dry.

This is an enterprise AP, overkill for home use. You need to pair it with a switch or controller used with multiple APs to get max benefit like better roaming handover, handling 100s of connected devices. For home use, might as well as pick up a mesh system. You get all you need without a subscription.

But for $30 can I just run it off the LAN port of my router for an out door ap?

One rare use cases for home use with large area coverage. Smilie

Why not just get fortinet AP, so you can still get AP management. A little more upfront but prevent network outage in case you need to manage it.
