If this design is the same as a previous Phillips sonicare brush I had, it has a metal slot that fits into the toothbrush head. Unfortunately, water gets up in there, rusts it out, and then you eventually end up with a useless brush regardless of whether the battery is still good.
If I could read the T&C Costco had with the vendor and if your return stuck it on Phillips, I'd be fine with that. But, my guess is Costco would eat the return.
It's a bad design as I detailed above.
