I would very highly recommend skipping this one, I bought one for my wife for Christmas and it lasted less than a week before it started screaching and making "the song of it's people". I exchanged it and the 2nd one made it less than 24 hours before it started screaming.

Nugget ice makers develop disgusting snotty biofilm bacteria almost instantly, so unless you're doing a full industrial cleaning on them weekly, your ice is honestly gross AF

Is it something about nugget ice makers specifically or all ice makers?

Nugget, because they have a reservoir that holds the water between ice making cycles. Regular ice makers just fill the tray every few hours, they don't store sitting water anywhere
