You'll have to make a LOT of pasta to break even. 1lb of dried pasta is around $1-1.50 retail. Less if you buy bulk.

I don't disagree, but what bulk options are out there? Thinking commercial bags? I have a standalone pasta maker and knew, after one time, buying is the way to go unless you want to do this for fun.

I have this attachment and it works well, takes a bit of practice but is definitely high quality and craftsmanship. I agree it's not for economics, but more for the hobbyists.

But it is so much fun making pasta! And when people come over for dinner, they are impressed that we made our own.

You don't get that out of the box!

Fresh pasta is SO much better though anything but the lowest quality boxed is edible. Can't exactly make ravioli or tortellini from dried but certainly can with flour and a rolling pin which is a bit cheaper than mixer accessories..

Go to a restaurant supply store. You have multiple options for buying dried pasta in quantities of more than 1lb at at time. $190 will buy you FAR more than 190lbs of pasta.

A lot of people aren't buying this to save money over buying store bought pasta. Fresh pasta is going to better for certain sauces, and it's just more fun and enjoyable to make your own food.
