I bought this back when it came out, because I kept reading that it was finally a good Star Ocean game, after several bad ones, but I found this really empty and boring. The story is extremely boring. It was a big disappointment.

Totally agreed. It's a shell of a game.
Like the art design. But gameplay and story is not there at all.

I will go to bat for this game.. it definitely isnt the most polished thing in the world but I enjoyed this among the most of the modern era of JRPGs. Strong characters throughout. Still though, it does make you wish that tri-ace had more time or budget on this.
Its basically like a ps2 era JRPG with more modern graphics (still using some interesting old graphics tech that retains some of the ps2 look though)
