Used to take two months of active and paid service to get them unlocked but then kind hearted person at Verizon being paid at least six figures that why not file a case with ftc and make it 12 months of active a paid service to ruin it all together for regular customers.

Isnt the Moto G Power a better deal for $90 - 2 pack with 8 Gig of RAM (assuming that we can aggregate all the minutes/data to an existing Tracfone line) - https://www.ebay.com/itm/287191137918

I checked it using ADB, for those that aren't familiar it would be easier to google "how to check android battery health and capacity using adb", you'll find a bunch of tutorials and videos. Quick rundown, it consists of turning on the developer mode, turning on adb setting, downloading something on your computer, firing up a terminal and running "adb shell dumpsys battery"

mSavedBatteryAsoc will give you the reading of the associated state of charge as a percentage of its maximum capacity.

If you don't want to do all this, the most accurate app I've found to estimate battery health is accubattery but it needs to go through 5 charge cycles to get a decent estimate.
Thanks for the reply. I've never used ADB... I think my computer's OS is incompatible if I remember correctly. Don't care to get that in-depth with the computer or phone.
Edit: I won't go through 5 battery cycles on a Tracfone so didn't want to waste my time any further with that app (lol).

Anyone have any luck unlocking these? I went to the website and it told me it qualifies to be unlocked, but I never got the email. Tried different emails and checked my spam folder.

These require 12 months of active service before they are eligible to be unlocked per the new rules. It used to be 2 months and since the time since this change was introduced hasn't passed the one year mark, I believe no one has gone through the new process yet. If your reading it of their website, it might be that yes it CAN be unlocked, but you need to meet the year if service requirements prior to that. What website are you using btw?

I bought this deal and can confirm it is a much better phone - no problems multitasking and after a year it can unlock from the TracFone network. Motorola does not come with the six years of updates, however. Otherwise, if you are ok with sticking with a less secure phone come 2027, the performance is almost better than my main phone (the moto g stylus 24).
How "secure" do you need your phone to be anyways? I mean, it's a phone call and text message device. It's not like anything is making those armour-clad or whatever the digital equivalent would be.

(And to anyone who does financials or medical on their mobile phone....well, they shouldn't. It's inherently insecure by its very nature. It's a dainty glass-coated device -- sometimes on both sides. Carried 5+ feet off the ground (or less if you're short). And a target for thieves. Now they're saying it won't get updates and be even LESS secure with software. None that is worth any convenience of staring at bank balance on-the-go.)

That's called corporate greed to price gouge and profit off the plebs. It's really hot and so in right now
And people keep buying their phones, so there's no incentive to change.

Note that people are reporting activation problems in the review (excerpts from searching reviews for "acitvate"):

1. "got the phone activated, but none of the Promo was recognized. Spent an hour with Marco, Tracfone chat, & he said nothing could be done as Amazon was not an authorized Tracfone dealer. Spent 2 hrs. on telephone with a Tracfone Service Rep. who would not honor the Promo package that came with the phone. After pleading my case, he talked with 2 different Tracfone "supervisors" who finally agreed to grant me a "courtesy case", & installed the Promo package on my phone." - March 24. 2026

2. "Verizon would not activate the phone. Good luck buyers" - April 17, 2026

I was trying to find how long one can wait before activating. Doing a general search, I can only find results from over 2 years ago, and they vary, with some saying you must activate within 60 days to get the promo minutes/texts, another saying you had 6 months, and another saying 1 year from purchase.

Given that uncertainty and the reviews above, I'm not buying.

Is that 1500 texts/500MB per month, or for the whole year? Does incoming election spam texts count against the 1500?

No taxes, fees besides what you paid at purchase.

I bought two of these. This is a fantastic bargain. Both phones look brand new. I update my phones every 2 or 3 years with deals like this. If you are like me, and don't need the absolute latest of everything to try to impress people, and you don't let a cellphone control every aspect of your life, don't pass this up.

Phones activated before Jan 20 were under the old 60 day policy.
Any TF/ST/TW phones activated after that now require 12 months of active service. Details are on the TF website.

Mine had the service included & looked brand new. It's more likely that since a new version has already been released (A17) they had way too many of these still in stock & needed to get rid of them. Definitely wasn't a waste of time.
