I have been waiting for it to drop down to this price range. Unfortunately, I already pulled the trigger on the LG G5 83 inch for about 1.5X this price. I am happy with it, but this also has great picture quality that I would've also probably been happy with plus another thousand dollars still in my pocket.

Rtings has them really closed. QM9k can get brighter, but qm8k can already get really really bright.

Real world I'm not sure whether you would notice a difference?

If it gets brighter, so what? It depends on use case, almost always when the tv gets brighter it loses the color, contrast the creator intended. Just don't take raw numbers make it sound it like that's all what a tv needs. Leave that for YouTube shills that get paid for shit like this

This has 10,000 dimming zones vs 2800 on the QM8K. If you care about dark room performance and blooming/halos, this should technically be better despite similar bright performance.

Thanks guys, appreciate your input! I heard that QM9K can make really loud humming noises especially in high brightness, I guess it may be due to having so many dimming zones>

I have this exact TV In 85". Also own 3 LG OLEDs. This is a premium TV in every way imo, and has been fantastic visually. The brightness really makes a huge difference, and the blacks are great as well.
