The non-stick coating comes off fairly easily - I'm surprised they are including an abrasive sponge. These aren't bad for light use.

For camp cooking its kind of hard to justify the nonstick coating which is nice but needs careful cooking (no metal utensils ever, no overheating ever); I have bought a bunch of the regular anodized version of this kit and as long as youre doing basic stuff like making rice, eggs, soup, etc it will hold up fine and is still pretty easy to clean. For my kids i get them a very small tin of olive oil to cook with and they have made a lot of meals on their own with success.

Yes, using a Teflon (non-stick) pan over an open fire is a bad idea. Open flames easily exceed (500-600F), which is the threshold where non-stick coatings begin to break down, releasing toxic fumes, blistering, and flaking off.
