Red Dead Redemption 2 is a slow, story driven open world game that rewards patience and attention to detail, with hunting and fishing standing out as appealing side activities. The opening snow section and early chapters can feel like a long slog, especially if the story does not hook quickly or playtime is limited. Even so, the game is described as a masterpiece once it gets going, and the long campaign can still feel worth the time. Steam is preferred for the refund option, points, and easier library convenience.

Common Questions (4)

  • Yes. The opening snow section is only about the first 15-20 minutes, but the game still has a slower pace than many open-world titles and can feel like a slog if you want immediate action. It does pick up after the intro, and the story is a major reason to stick with it.

  • It can still be finished in short sessions, but it may take a long time; one player with four kids finished it over 9 months and still called it worth it. If you only have 20-60 minutes at a time, the slow opening may be the hardest part.

  • Steam is preferred here for the refund option, Steam points, Deck support, and easier library sharing, while this deal is noted as a frequent Steam sale price. If you already own Red Dead Redemption 1, the bundle can reportedly be even cheaper on Steam.

  • Hunting and fishing are standout side activities and can be a reason to buy the game on their own. The world also rewards taking your time and paying attention to details rather than rushing straight through missions.

This game isn't for me. It is so slow and boring. I can't even get passed the snow level.

Understandable, you have to be able to appreciate the details and take your time in order to enjoy this kind of game. If you can do that, this game is definitely one of the best of its kind out there. If you're someone who likes to just jump immediately into the action, this isn't really it.

If the story fails to grip you from the start then it's a pain in the arse. It's like the length of a movie. Of course many will Say "oh it gets better after that chapter" but if you have 30 minutes to a night and you can either have fun or slog through something for 2-3 days to HOPEFULLY like it later on, can't blame them if they stop. I recommend they slog Through it tho cause it is a great game.
I love Metal Gear but i still shutter at the thought of restarting MGS5 because of the intro and that's me loving the game.

That truth hurts. I didn't play the story the first time (same reason as you). I got a new pc and wanted to play, got fed up with online cheaters went off line back to story and stuck with it. (I am going to say the line) it was worth sticking through the start.

Missing out on one of the best games to ever be made because it starts out a bit slow is crazy work.

Try the new game that released called Crimson Desert. It's like the Witcher 3 and RDR2 without the boring cutscenes.

Great game, although it just didn't hit as hard as the first one IMO.

Death Stranding is not a game, it's a therapy. Not everyone needs constantly shooting and explosions and loud music. Death Standing is great when you just want to do one more delivery and just enjoy what you might come across and connect with.. Walk, drive or ride.. It's 10/10 for me. Just like RDR2.
