I don't think this gets new features like more current models nor the new UI does it?

This already has all the features you'll ever want, the rest is only Garmin marketing. But the price is not good. I got the Fenix 7x Pro for under $400 from a deal posted on SD around 6 months ago.

Fenix 9 will be dropping. This will be way cheaper.

Agree. Awesome watch, but overpriced. I got the 47mm for $450 and seen as low as $400. This is sapphire and the largest (huge!) version, so certainly a premium, but this price is still a no-go. Also, having had sapphire and non-sapphire for Garmin watches, the non-sapphire with a cheapo amazon glass screen protector is the better option. The screen protectors rarely scratch, but super easy to replace if needed.

How can my cheap Amazfit answer and talk on phone calls, when expensive Garmins can't? I like Garmin fitness tracking and sleep tracking better than Amazfit, but the Amazfit has better smart watch features while still having good battery life.

I don't buy a Garmin for smart watch features, in fact, I buy one to avoid it.

Paid $499 for this exact watch in July, 2024.

Nope, the epix will not get feature updates going forwards.

Garmin "deals" have so drastically shifted in the last couple of years.

~3 years post-release in late 2022 I got a sapphire fenix 6 pro from a generic BuyDig sale for $299 with a 2 year extended warranty.

~4 years post release date for the same tier watch is $626?

These are 4 years old and don't get new feature updates. Check eBay first. Also 51mm is chonky best to know if you like that size before committing.

Release date was 5/31/23, so almost 3 years old. I have the Fenix 7x Pro - same watch but with the MIP display. Love it.

This is a great watch, but not a great price. Look for factory refurbished or used like-new under $400 on eBay.

Off-topic obviously, but if you work out and use an app like Hevy, smartwatches make it a very pleasant and integrated experience. Garmin doesn't (primarily because it is above allowing such apps interface with Garmin Connect).
I love Garmin reliability and battery life, but I've switched to a smartwatch and never looked back.
