I did order the 24" too but probably won't keep it. I really never figured out what that size is good for since you always have to pay to check it so might as well just have the larger one at that point.

..and yes most budget airlines I believe 160cm is the max, I travelled to Japan and 160cm was the max combined for things like luggage delivery/bullet train etc. As to how persistent they check and with scrutiny, I am not sure..ymmv

To be clear I haven't flown SouthWest since 2018, my experience in the last 5 years was with Delta, United, and American and I hold an airline credit card with each carrier. I can see budget airlines (Frontier, Spirit, Breeze, and now apparently SouthWest) squeezing customers. My check-in is 2 inches over so I think that's the reason it isn't flagged but a 30/32 inch bag is likely asking for expensive additional fees.
