Sounds like I need to go this route. I bought these ones when the deal came up and have been using them for a week or so. They're pretty bad. Like you said, they almost dig into the carpet if they're pointed in the wrong direction when you try making small movements.I have a big L shaped desk with a work PC on one side and personal PC on the other where I'll jump between the two a lot during the day. These wheels have awful for that.

Just installed these on a chair I use on a flexible plastic mat over medium-low pile carpet. Overall, not much of a noticable difference, but these are ball bearings with a soft rubberized wheel, so the value and durability are certainly there. They do sit a bit taller than regular office chair casters, so keep in mind if you don't have an adjustable desk (I raised mine about a cm or +1.00 on the screen to compensate).
Hoping this should at least improve the carpet denting and maneuverability, time will tell.

I bought a set of these and noticed they are smooth until you change directions then they drag noticeably. I bought my wife a better set and the difference is night and day between them. You really do get what you pay for.
