Community Reviews

These rollerblade style office chair casters are mainly praised for making chairs roll far more smoothly than stock wheels, with real ball bearings and soft rubberized wheels that glide well on hardwood and low pile carpet. They also help protect hard floors from scratches and can improve movement on some carpet setups. The main cautions are fit and handling, since the peg may be nonstandard for some chairs, the wheels sit taller, and the single wheel design can drag when turning or feel awkward on dense carpet. A compact upgrade if your chair and floor type match.

I will have to disagree with others, not much better. If you have a mat type of carpet they are OK, a bit better but if you have home style and dense carpets, these don't make much difference in fact make it difficult to twist from one direction to another. Only solution is get plastic floor mat, these will fly! If you like that too, but i find it too shifty then.

I'm also looking to replace my stock embody casters to use the chair on hardwood. was it as simple as pulling out the old ones and plugging in all four of these new ones?

Second this. Double wheels are much better for changing direction when not in motion. I had the single wheel for like a week or two and not only was it taller, it was not easy to change direction. If my wheels were pointed in a front/back direction and I wanted to move left or right, I'd be battling it a little bit. If I moved in the front/back direction first and then shifted, it was easier.
Double wheels made a huge difference.

how are these for hardwood?
Should work good on actual hardwood. Other hard floorings like LVP not so much as they can damage that type of flooring. They might possibly damage engineered hardwood too.

Personally while I liked these, I've switched over to the double wheel shorter ones now because of the LVP issue and like those better. They roll more like the stock wheels, don't run over your toes accidently, and don't raise the height of the chair.

Yes. Casters on almost every modern chairs are pull and plug.

I tried a similar set. They sit about 2 inches higher than regular wheels and they get stuck in position. What I mean is if your trying to roll forward or backward because of the large size of the wheels they don't rotate as easily and they make the chair prone to falling backwards more easily. I never fell all the way back but I had a couple of close calls before swapping back to regular chair wheels!

Yes, they have far less rolling resistance than stock wheels on any kind of surface. I do the "roll test" where I push the chair with a similar amount of force and see how far the chair will roll. Here is a rough idea of the difference for 3 kinds of surfaces on stock wheels vs these rollerblade style wheels where I ran the test at least 3 times for each scenario to get a more accurate average:
Hardwood: 4ft (stock wheels) vs all the way across the 12ft room and it would have gone farther if there was no wall to stop it.
Low pile carpet such as office carpet: 2.5ft vs 5ft
High pile or shag carpet: 1.5ft vs 2.5ft
I switched to the dual rollerblade wheels for my chair because I have high pile carpet and the dual wheels create far less friction when trying to turn or change directions compared to this single wheel design since there are twice as many wheels touching the carpet which means each wheel is supporting half the amount of weight compared to a single wheel design, and dual wheels aren't trying to pivot around where the wheel touches the carpet but rather around an area between each set of wheels which results in far less force needed to make them turn under load. If you are on low pile carpet or hardwood then there is almost no difference in turning friction between this style and my dual-wheel style, so dual wheels are only very beneficial for high pile carpet.

Really appreciate this in depth comparison! Mine are being delivered tomorrow but it sounds like they're going to be a very nice upgrade.

Not a good product. The peg is not standard and is fatter despite the claim.

this style of caster is great but I would not buy cheap ones (again). I learned the hard way that the metal around the bearings will bend over time and the result is greasy bearings everywhere.
completely ruined a carpeted place rug.
