This is a decent toaster oven. I've had for about a year. It is not a "smart" toaster oven like the Breville. On the Breville, it will adjust toast time for your second batch of toast as it senses the internal preheated temp. This will just run another 6min toast cycle which will over do your toast. Simple example. Still good quality. The Breville will die from its convection fan going bad or the buttons going bad. I had two prior. Do miss the smart features, but this is better quality.

I've used this for a year. It does really take a very long time to warm up. It takes at least a minimum of 15 minutes to warm up the pizza stone enough that its actually functional. There is only 1 infrared heating element on top. The bottom 2 elements do not look like they are infrared to me. They seem to be closer to regular quartz.

This looks mores designed for our North American market... But if you're looking for an absolutely awesome toaster oven (That is NOT an air fryer), this Japanese version is fantastic: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008C9U...e_0_0&th=1
They sell that same exact version in Japan and it's very common. Yeah, hash browns are popular over there, hence the dedicated button on this quartz toaster oven (It actually does work really good on those frozen patty hash browns though for a single or double with breakfast haha).

I have this, it's HUGE, you can put just about anything in it, that said it takes FOREVER to preheat. Does a good job on Toast. Build Quality it great though compared to others on the market. Just wish that they made it a bit smaller (less height) so it would preheat better.

Wish we had the counter space as our current 8 qt air fryer is on its last leg.

I've noticed a pattern in comments about the Breville Smart: people often say they're on their second or third. Does it really die that fast? Or is it so good that people just use it on the daily and it dies after years of daily use? Does the Breville preheat fast? It seems like this one takes forever to preheat because of it's size.

The fact that it's not a smart toaster oven is a plus. All I want the toaster oven to do is cook my food. I don't it want sending my data to the government or to Amazon or trying to sell me subscription services.

I can't say about this model. But I have a Instant pot Vortex.

I had that one for 6 years now since COVID. Used few times a day at least to cook random food and/or heating things up. IT gets beat up. First time it died few years ago was the door switch. I bought another same model switch on ebay and wasn't that hard to change.

Next thing went was the light bulb. That was much easier to change.

Few weeks ago the unit turns on but doesn't heat up. Found out the circuit board burned out (relay?). Found out that the Insignia model had the exact same board. Took me a little while to swap the board and it's working like new.

Lots of these are the same components. Could be a part that burned out after usage. They don't make things the same as they use to anymore.

EDIT: Also I find that you don't really need to pre-heat these to cook anything. You just have to figure out the timing from it starts to heat up and fully cooked. Pretty much if it said 10 min on for 400F, I'll stick things in and turn it on for 7-8 min and it'll be cooked.

'Smart' may simply mean intelligent sensors, like a PID temp sensor for accuracy, in the Breville, which allows the behaviour debonosan described. Nothing to do with IoT.
Still interested in this as a replacement for my Breville which still runs strong after 5 years (900 series pro) when it finally dies, they are difficult to repair, while this one seems easier.

I'm confused by this. Isn't the advantage of an air fryer that you don't have to preheat? Or is this something directly related to the pizza stone? I don't know anything about pizza stone.
I'm looking for something that combines a toaster and my air fryer and doesn't take up so much counter space and also doesn't require heating inside a plastic shell - which my current basket style air fryer is like. It works amazingly well for what I want (heating up Trader Joe's frozen stuff and veggies), but I don't like the idea of putting food inside a plastic compartment that gets really hot and having multiple units for different things is annoying.

On my third Breville (one replaced under warranty) I'm not sure why I purchased again. They all seem to last about 3 years with infrequent use , which isn't totally outrageous but they aren't $30 toasters either

Yes, we've got this same Japanese version Panasonic Flash XPress compact Toaster Oven (non air fryer version) and it does make fantastic toast. And hash browns! We got it back in 2017 as an Amazon "Like New" condition during one of their warehouse deals sale, so it was about $80 so a really good deal. It isn't an air fryer, but it does cook other stuff pretty well although it definitely runs hot and has some hot spots. If we didn't have this one, I'd be truly tempted to get this newer version with air fryer.

We also have a large Gourmia All in One 14 Quart Air Fryer/oven/rotisserie/dehydrator (Walmart December deal for $50) which is the primary "air fryer" and oven, as we don't use the large built in ovens very often now. This Gourmia one works fine for air fryer even though it's not a basket style and it's large enough to bake 8" or small cakes too. We haven't tried rotiserrie or dehydrating on it. Surprisingly, this Gourmia 14 quart is almost the same outer size dimension as our old 8 quart Gourmia basket style air fryer that we passed to our son.

We've looked at the Breville ovens and they seem very nice, but can't justify several hundreds more when our current flash toaster and air fryer ovens work fine for our needs. The only major drawbacks is that these two appliances take up space, but it's something that we can live with and the old Panasonic flash oven is still working great for almost 10 years. If it breaks and the fix isn't easy, then I'd consider replacing it at that time and maybe with this newer Panasonic version.

That's too funny, we kind of ended up at the FlashXpress the same way. Didn't want anything massive living on the countertop (We have a convection oven and an air fryer in the cabinet anyhow). This little guy is almost a cube in shape and fits perfect in the wasted corner space on our counter. It works so well for toasting things, reheating a portion or two of something (that wouldn't be agreeable to do so in a microwave) and man, I was surprised at the has brown feature, but I actually use that a lot now haha. Many of the reviews we read said people got a decade plus out of it. Highly recommended!
