It's a good price, but just realize going into it that the game is horribly underperforming for having just come out. This type of deep discount only two months in feels desperate, because it is. Marathon is struggling to maintain 20k active daily on Steam. For a AAA company like Bungie, that's pretty bad.

Agreed on the price, and agree that they're desperate.

They should have made a single-player campaign IMHO.

Almost all games get a 20% discount after 45-60 days on the market. For comparison Arc Raiders, which was a great success in the space, had its first 20% sale 49 days after launch. Marathon has this sale 47 days after launch. I'm sure they wish it was doing better but they certainly had a sale for this time period already planned.

This is over a 30% discount tho, Arc Raiders gave theirs over Steam's Winter Sale.
Bungie has 1300+ employees as a AAA company, Arc about 250. Arc daily averaged 5x or more on Steam, and the sales #'s proved it.
I think you need a few more dots on the graph before you try drawing a line through them.

It's fair to knock IGN for a lot of their crap but they were pretty accurate on Marathon. People who play the game say it's a great shooter with great mechanics, the problem is it's badly underperforming in sales and player retention, and there's very little buzz around the game. Safe to say Bungie is probably going to be laying off a good chunk of their staff.

What I don't understand is why a major publisher chose to go in this direction. Like why not have all types of pve instances and dungeon and extraction choice for the masses? It like hunting a single rabbit instead of a a wild boar when you got a huge family to feed. They make little sense(bungie).
