this might be it... I've been flying codeshared flights (pay united but end up on ANA), but these prices can't be beat. That being said, that flight was like $750 for me so it's a difference of $150 for better seats/meal/maybe flight times as well

Will Japan have jet fuel for the flight back? Currently they have like 2 months worth left.

Btw Tokyo and most of Asia is super hot in August. Not fun for sightseeing. Unless you are bound by kids school schedule, I would avoid July/Aug.

My coworker went there in October last year and loved it. Believe he toured south Japan and wants to go back to see the other half. Want to say he made it a two and a half week trip there. He said getting around with English is feasible in Tokyo, but better learn some phrases once you go elsewhere.

never heard of this airline before, it's a huge risk going 16 hours over nothing but ocean in one of these. Yeh no spank you!
This is actually a very well-known, Japanese-run airline with a great safety record. You just don't get a check-in or meal baked into the price, but a meal is like $13 as an add-on. Great when other flights are expensive for whatever reason. Clean and decent seats. Bring your own entertainment though. Check-in baggage is like $80 there and $75 or so back. I usually don't check a luggage in and just buy a check-in luggage of some kind there there to bring back stuff.

I flew them. It's a subsidiary of Japan Air. I got the business seat for a 10H flight for $1500. You had to pay for food and bags (which I did for say $100 as I needed the bags). I'm 6'2" and the seat was big enough for me to lie flat and not have my feet crammed into a coffin shape. The food was Japanese on-a-budget but it was clean, crisp minimalist service and fine. Slept most of the way anyway.
