Monoprice. A 3 foot patch cable would be 2.89. That is where I get all my patch cables from. The only place IMO it's economical to make your own cables is when doing runs in a house. Just my personal opinion.

You're responding to someone asking about three -inch- cables. The point is that sometimes you need custom length cables. Or to replace an end. Plenty of times where a box of pre made patch cables of a standard length won't solve the problem adequately.

to save some ppl money: many times cities will have a "tool library" where residents can borrow tools.

i've borrowed soldering irons, LED worklights, cable crimpers and garden tools from mine.
very nice when you really only need it one or two times

This thing is already outdated, passing through is what people use every day.

Then sure if you have such a niche requirement then go ahead and buy these. A 3 in patch cable would be like 1 inch of cable and two connectors. Would be essentially useless. 1 foot is the smallest anyone really needs to go.

Is it really so hard to comprehend that virtually every person with a networking job and half of the generalized IT staffers have a use for this tool? You're getting wrapped up in specifics of places you don't need it and missing the big picture in the process.

I'd say pros don't use pass throughs but unfortunately I see far too many amateurs masquerading as pros. I don't use 'em and won't let my techs use them. Just another point of failure, especially with PoE equipment.
