Fair question, fair answer:
Patagonia takes a lot of pride in using sustainable practices, paying their workers across the production process a fair wage (even in third world countries), and generally have higher quality materials and construction than cheaper options.
Yes, the brand does have a premium for those who are brand snobs, but there absolutely is a real world difference in quality. Go to an outdoor store, take some time and really examine the quality of this or similar jackets, then go to Walmart and compare.

also their warranty actually means something unlike other brands that just market some BS but won't stand behind it.

they repaired a swag backpack with a brand embroidered on that I got as a gift (no receipt). it was a while ago but I only had to cover shipping one way and I was super happy with the cost/process.

I've also had an awesome experience with Peak Design.

vs timbuk2 who has peeling layers and says its wear and tear and offers you 10% off your next purchase. there won't be a next purchase.

This brand is recognized for its legitimate "tech" wear that uses materials that provide benefits for those that hit the hills and mountains and make the clothing durable, while also having built a reputation for more thoughtful business practices.

In the last 5-10 years they have made a move to be more in the mainstream, but many of their products are still high quality.

They also tend to provide a more thought out fit, which makes them perform better for things like heat retention or mobility without being uncomfortable.

Once again, some of their fits have also trended more mainstream/universal, but if you know the line, you know what will fit you best.

They also have pretty good off season sales which makes the clothing more attainable.
I've been wearing some version of their tech fleeces for the last 15+ years because they're so cozy, comfy, and lightweight.

The Nano puff is nice, but the one I owned got dirty from lots of use and some of the threads would pull. Also, while the hood on the one I had worked well, I preferred the Arcteryx Atom LT hoody which has turned out to be more durable for how I wear it. The Atom did cost a bit more, even on sale, but it's so comfortable and is useful in a large temperature range, and I've now had my second one for years. I'd still be wearing my first one but it accidentally got torn on a piece of sharp metal that it snagged onto.

All/most non-tech puffy jackets have an overly mainstream fit that makes them look huge and goofy.

How come this polyfill jacket is more expensive than other polyfill jackets from other brands?

Because of sheep following. People would make millions of excuses to justify their Patagonia purchase. Lol

Bought this for about $130 five years ago. Material has held up well. Keeps wind out and keeps me warm (high 30°F is the coldest it will consistently reach around here). Cuffed sleeves and drawstring waist definitely help.

Keep in mind that the fit is a bit boxier than their micro puff line of jackets so there's less room around the gut. I'd 100% buy it again at this price if my old one started to see wear and tear, but it hasn't yet.

I have this jacket with hood. Its not warm at all if temps fall below 45 (unless you layer up) but very light and thin which makes it very comfy. I bought it from REI after watching youtube reviews where they all said how good it is. But honestly for price to performance I would give it 5/10. If you are brand conscious then get it- but I'd say a lot of money is going to the brand and very less for jacket itself.
Honestly now I think about it, this is a great jacket if you have long flights where it gets super chilly inside the airplanes. Yeah in real world cold environment this is a solid midlayer where outside you still wanna have something else.

Another satisfied customer -- have had mine about 2 years, it's held up well. Definitely not a deep winter jacket, as others have said, but perfect for fall when temps are just above freezing or so. Like other poly jackets of mine, the pits eventually get a bit stinky, but nothing a wash with some extra germ-killing product can't take care of.
