Patagonia takes a lot of pride in using sustainable practices, paying their workers across the production process a fair wage (even in third world countries), and generally have higher quality materials and construction than cheaper options.
Yes, the brand does have a premium for those who are brand snobs, but there absolutely is a real world difference in quality. Go to an outdoor store, take some time and really examine the quality of this or similar jackets, then go to Walmart and compare.

they repaired a swag backpack with a brand embroidered on that I got as a gift (no receipt). it was a while ago but I only had to cover shipping one way and I was super happy with the cost/process.
I've also had an awesome experience with Peak Design.
vs timbuk2 who has peeling layers and says its wear and tear and offers you 10% off your next purchase. there won't be a next purchase.
In the last 5-10 years they have made a move to be more in the mainstream, but many of their products are still high quality.
They also tend to provide a more thought out fit, which makes them perform better for things like heat retention or mobility without being uncomfortable.
Once again, some of their fits have also trended more mainstream/universal, but if you know the line, you know what will fit you best.
They also have pretty good off season sales which makes the clothing more attainable.
I've been wearing some version of their tech fleeces for the last 15+ years because they're so cozy, comfy, and lightweight.
The Nano puff is nice, but the one I owned got dirty from lots of use and some of the threads would pull. Also, while the hood on the one I had worked well, I preferred the Arcteryx Atom LT hoody which has turned out to be more durable for how I wear it. The Atom did cost a bit more, even on sale, but it's so comfortable and is useful in a large temperature range, and I've now had my second one for years. I'd still be wearing my first one but it accidentally got torn on a piece of sharp metal that it snagged onto.
All/most non-tech puffy jackets have an overly mainstream fit that makes them look huge and goofy.

Keep in mind that the fit is a bit boxier than their micro puff line of jackets so there's less room around the gut. I'd 100% buy it again at this price if my old one started to see wear and tear, but it hasn't yet.
