They work great for the first two to three years. However, if they are heavily loaded in the middle the particle board shelves start to sag and look terrible. Ask me how I know know with a bunch of paint I had stacked lol I would try to distribute any heavy loads around the perimeter of the shelf to help mitigate this issue.

I had that happen and just replaced the particle board with plywood and it will never be an issue again.

It isn't just this shelving. I've had similar trouble with the crappy particle board. It's worth the cost of replacing the particle board shelves with OSB or plywood. They'll tolerate heavy loads much longer.

I have 2 in my garage, haven't had any issues like what other folks have had. I did cover the shelves with cardboard just to cut down on any leaks or drips working into the (cheap) wood.

I have these and if you live in an area with high humidity part of the year, you'll want to either seal the edges and surface of the included MDF board to keep it from swelling, or buy a sheet of OSB or 1/2" plywood, seal the edges of it, and replace the MDF with that. I paid this price about 5 years ago and they're holding up well, and are very easy for one person to assemble. I don't have anywhere near the 500lb limit on any shelf, but I wouldn't trust that after a couple years either.

However, if you have tools to cut OSB/plywood, then unless you need this specific form factor, two sheets of OSB cut lengthwise, a few 2x4s, and a few furring strips will give you 8ft of extremely sturdy shelving for about this price too.

Still, a great deal for the convenience they offer.

I've had mine for about 5 years. Definitely not 4,000lb. I put about 200lb on the bottom shelf, it bent and my items fell through. Granted, it took about 2-3 years for it to collapse. The top shelfs are fine, just keep them dry and don't put too much weight on them. They're cheap for a reason.

I never had that issue because I replace the particle board when I set it up Smilie I used mine for 20gal aquariums though so it was VERY necessary. I have a set in my garage as well and think I just used the standard wood. It definitely holds up unless it's heavy stuff.

I'd bring a shelf to homedepot or whatever and they will cut you new wood for it. All you need is some plywood. If you want something with curb appeal you can get some laminated maple ply as well.
Also, for anyone else considering this, a rubber mallet is your friend to install these. Or a wood board and a hammer to get the shelves into place.
