It's a midweight at 250 grams so a decent price. Heavy weight is 400 grams.

Anyone have experience with sizing on these? My plan is to use this more as a mid layer like over a tshirt. Size up?

But the listing says this "Fits slightly large based on reviews" so maybe not.

description says:
Close-to-body fit for optimum performance
And most REI shirts I buy are slightly large also.

Are you between sizes? I'd size up if you're going over your base layer T since it'll shrink a little after a wash and if you need it to shrink more then warm water wash it. Or buy two and return the other at a local REI.

Yes 250 gsm is technically mid weight, but it's very warm for a mid weight. I would consider 250 in real world use for when it actually gets chilly, but not bitter cold. You will sweat unnecessarily with 250 if it's a really warm outside and you are being truly active like hiking.

Not sure about hot water, but my smart wool shirts are 10 years old and have seen nothing but warm wash and the drier and still look great.
