The Wavlink RapidFire is a 4 bay SATA enclosure that doubles as a USB C hub with HDMI output, making it appealing for a desk or home server setup. The enclosure can be useful for fast backups, RAID with SSDs, or a Steam Deck style dock, and the individual drive power switches stand out. The HDMI output depends on USB C display support and may only mirror in some setups. The 10Gbps limit, separate 2.5 inch adapters, and reports of noisy cooling, hot drives, and occasional drive detection issues are the main drawbacks.

  • Desk setup owners using a USB-C display-capable laptop, because the HDMI output becomes active as an alternate display through USB-C.

  • Home server builders storing read-heavy media, because it can deliver good read speed for HTPC use.

  • SSD packers building a fast backup array, because RAIDing four SSDs can reach about 20Gbps for quick transfers.

  • People expecting quiet all-day operation, because the tiny fan can run full speed and the drives can run hot with three installed.

  • Laptop dock buyers who already use another USB-C display output, because the HDMI port may not work or may only mirror.

  • High-throughput storage buyers, because the enclosure is limited to 10Gbps instead of the 20Gbps some setups need.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

I had one. It was good for read speed for a home server / htpc but the tiny fan would run full speed and was noisy. I had asked Wavlink if they can help me firmware upgrades out such, even sent them videos with a sound meter showing loudness. But they we unable to help. The drives would run hot as well when there were 3 of them inside. Ended up returning it and bought a Mediasonic one instead.
This was called the RapidFire 4 back in 2025 when I had it.

If I was going to utilize this thing(not necessary yet) I Would be RAIDing 4 SSD's. This would yield a combined throughput of approx. 20gbps, competing with basic M.2 drives and enough oomph to run games and stream off without significant bottlenecks.
Would enable ultra-fast data backups as well.
What games and streaming require 4 SSDs in RAID?

Is this a good enough deal to get now and hope to fill it someday with cheap drives?
