I like Brother, but their envelope printing is sub-par. I got a MFC-L3780CDW for my parents and found it was crinkling envelopes. I found instructions [brother-usa.com] online showing that to print envelopes a rear output door needs to be opened and levers need to be adjusted to reduce on the pressure, which requires strength and dexterity my parents don't have. A Canon imageClass AIO I have can print envelopes without any of this because it is able to adjust pressure and speed in the firmware when it knows it is printing an envelope. I asked Brother support which of their models are able to do this and they told me there are none - they all require the manual adjustments for envelope printing. (Although this link [brother.com] describes a Brother model operating the same as my Canon. So, maybe support was wrong and some Brother models are actually as capable as my Canon.)

That's a great printer and Brother is usually the most accepting of aftermarket cartridges.

This machine doesn't even have duplex ADF scanning. For 20 years I trusted Brother. I had a couple of inexpensive monochrome laser MFCs that came with automatic duplex scanning. And were ultra-reliable. I had a monochrome laser printer that lasted about a dozen years with just one roller replacement (and drum and toner, of course). Then I searched for a color printer that had auto-duplex ADF scanning (because I was spoiled by then). I bought an INKvestment monster of a machine. It scans really well. The INKvestment is BS, it drinks ink from the undersized cartridges that cost a fortune to replace. 3rd-party cartridges do not work (I've tried two different brands). I'm sure the printhead on it is long gone (and I never print with it anymore). I will never trust Brother again.

This unit was released in 2017 where the 3780 has more modern capabilities. Waiting on a sale price of 3780, good news is I do not print on envelopes.

What an odd caveat

How do you find out when printers are released? Asking so I can figure out how to do this on other ones
