This Metallica five album vinyl set stands out for the artwork, color variants, and the chance to grab hard to find pressings in one package. The set includes visually striking copies, though the green Justice variant draws some side eye. Audio talk centers on vinyl being a compromise versus CD, especially for ...And Justice for All, where the missing bass remains a sore point. At about $110, the price feels closer to a convenience and display piece than a strong value, especially since the albums can be found separately or on cheaper formats.

Great albums and art work but the price is absurd. It isnt like they fixed the bass on AJFA and vinyl is an inferior format to CD which frequently go on sale for $5 a piece. Is it worth $110 for some wall art? Probably not.
Some of the worst sounding albums I've heard were on CD and some of the best I've heard were on vinyl. Mastering and compression matters.

As someone who puts off "easily obtainable" releases from huge bands like this, I'm in for this. Cool color variants. Here's to hoping they don't arrive warped like usual Walmart/Target vinyl 🤞

Neat, thanks for the post. Green for Justice seems like an odd choice but otherwise they look spiffy.

I'm an audio engineer. I'm aware of this. There are multiple different versions out there. Pretty easy to do a good search to find the better ones.

As for vinyl it is a compromised form of recorded audio, you simply can't overcome the inherent limitations.

Even if you say mastering and compression - well Vinyl has a lower possible dynamic range and thus isn't even capable of reproducing the same dynamic range as a CD can if the same master source is used.

...And Justice For All was the first CD I purchased back in the day. I bought it on vinyl a few years ago, and I have to say it's the worst sounding record I've ever purchased. The (lack of Jason's) bass sounds terrible on vinyl.

thanks 🥹
I've driven a really sporty corolla with slick grippy tires on wide rims and modded suspension and quite shitty tired audi with flat tires and shot shocks and a worn shifter linkage.

Yeah I accidentally came across the CDs for $5 at the store a few months back and picked up Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning. I wanted an original pressing of MoP but at ~1/6 the price, I'm not gonna complain. $20/ea for a modern repress vinyl feels wrong.
