I own the 7x pro sapphire solar and I can't imagine not having the sapphire screen, especially when its been on sale for only a little more than this multiple times. I've banged my watch against all kinds of stuff and the titanium bezel is showing wear but the screen is literally flawless still.

Years of tempered glass screen protectors on Samsung and motorola watches, I'll never go back to anything that isn't sapphire crystal again.

Exactly. If you do any type of work with your hands get the sapphire. I'm on my third garmin watch over the last 8 years, the last one has been the epix gen2 with sapphire. Still looks like new and I wear it 24x7 including doing mechanic work.

My wife has sapphire, I do not. We both use the gorilla glass screens, we both have cracked them and replaced them. Both of our screens are flawless. I'm super impressed with both screens, really. This is a super solid watch!

This is a great price for this watch. My only warning would be, as others have mentioned, that this is not the sapphire screen. I have only ever used the sapphire screens on my Garmin watches, so no bad experience with the glass ones, but the sapphires have held up so flawlessly under a lot of abuse that I will probably never get another watch without sapphire.

This is an absolutely amazing watch and a smoking deal. Battery life is unparalleled and pretty much amongst the best in the industry shy of only maybe the Garmin Enduro 3 and Instinct.

I write/create my own watchfaces for this device that are hyper-micro-scrutinized for optimal battery efficiency, and i'm able to get over 2 months out of a single full charge on this watch (with no GPS-recorded runs) using that watchface in conjunction with a pretty light watch configuration (bluetooth/wifi off, pulse OX on-demand only, low-backlight setting, etc).

If you do a lot of GPS-recorded activities such as runs and bike rides, expect to get a lot less runtime, but it's hard to tell a person how much to expect to get since activities vary in duration and solar exposure.

By the way.... don't expect to get anything much from the solar feature. It slightly offsets your usage if you're out in the sun while doing activities, but it won't really actually charge or increase your battery level.

I appreciate the tips and insight. I'm looking at the Garmin as an athlete because I want to use the GPS activities so I guess I would be more concerned with battery life while using the smartwatch features as intended. I prefer to get measurements and information from the smartwatch, otherwise I think a standard quartz watch would accomplish basic timekeeping and give me a very long battery life.

I've run marathons with my Fenix 6 with plenty of life left after. This thing is a beast, and it's years old at this point. Jump on this if you need this type of watch.

I got the black friday deal on the sapphire version but am not sure whether I would pay $100 for the upgrade, if that were my only way to get it. Screen protectors are readily available and cheap, that would be the option I would choose. The nice thing about a screen protector is that it can be easily replaced of scratched or cracked.
Come to think of it, my watch is the solar sapphire version, which cost $426, vs $399 for this deal. I'm not convinced that this is a 'slick deal'.

I have a Fenix 6x Pro Solar I bought years ago from Target. It was on clearance for so long the store scanners didn't recognize it. I ended up paying two hundred and change for it and it's been great. I've gone through a number of bands and charging/sync cables but the watch itself has been amazing. One day I'll upgrade to a later version, not sure if I'd go with the Epix line for the AMOLED display but in any event I love these watches and this is a nice deal.

Great deal, holding out hope for the 47mm version. My wrists are way too small for this mammoth.
