I always wanted to do a trip like that. I played around with it and the time I was almost done it was so expensive. But if I had the money I would love to do a trip like this. Thanks for posting op

I looked and they only had the rooms with the small window for over 3k, I looked month after month and then they had another larger room open up at 8k for the 8 day trip. Lots of companies offer these river trips, price em out I guess !!

it's actually doable if you book 2 years out. put the deposit down first, divide your total price by 20 months and make that payment every month (maybe a couple/few hundred). by the time your final payment is due, you're done. two years come fast.

Their least expensive cruise is along the Rhine from Amsterdam to Basel with stops in Germany and France. I thoroughly enjoyed this cruise three years ago. Take advantage of free airfare.

I almost booked one of their trips but not after chatting with their customer service. Any land rooms are not guaranteed. They don't tell you where you are staying until almost the day before you leave. And the included excursions are not what most of us think, they are walking tours or a fast bus ride .
I'll just go tour on my own for over half off their prices and no provided info. Feels like a scam, so I even asked Gemini about to and it agreed.

My wife and I have done two viking river cruises. They are great! But know this...this is NOT a big ship with casinos and multiple restaurants or clubs. It is way more laid back. I hate to say it, but they are geared more for the older crowd. Be ready for slow moving tours and such. But you unpack once and you see several towns...cities and beautiful places you probably would never see from a big cruise ship! Plus, you are on a river or lake. Calm waters!
We did Russia...
St Petersburg to Moscow in 2007. Then Budapest, Hungary to Bucharest, Romania in ehhhh 2020 I think? They are really nice.

They are both boats. Honestly, after that they are a lot different. There are probably 200 passengers and 100 employees on a river cruise. The boat is probably 3 or 4 decks at the most on a river cruise. No clubs....no pool...no casino. It is a much more toned down vacation. You get to see a lot more of the places and people on the river boat.
Ocean cruises only get to big ports. You are only on land 3 or 4 hours and back to the ship. You get a lot more food choices... More entertainment...a pool...casino..
Party atmosphere and a few thousand to your best pals clogging up the buffet.
Both are great but it depends on the person.

Having gone on the Rhine River cruise last year its much more about seeing the destinations and cultures than staying on the boat. We did a mix of free tours and additional cost tours. Cost of the additional tours varies a good amount anywhere from an additional 50 a person to over 200 but alot of the more expensive ones are including food and drink or more private experiences. We really enjoyed our cruise and would love to do another one again. We were definitely one of the youngest couples on the cruise but we still really enjoyed it. You can definitely go off and do your own thing off the boat as long as you make it back to the dock before it leaves

I have seen the " up to free airfare" offered in the past, but when I go to actually price it out, they still charge for the flights. Very confusing
