The TCL NXTPAPER 70 Pro stands out as a 6.9 inch reading and media phone with a matte, paper like display that cuts glare and feels closer to e ink than a standard screen. It is also praised for decent performance, expandable memory, an IR blaster, and useful extras like offline maps and Wi Fi only use after Metro service ends. The main tradeoffs are the locked Metro setup, the 365 day unlock wait, and screen quirks such as muted colors, glare at certain angles, and limited protector options. A niche pick for reading, navigation, and light media use.

Common Questions (5)

  • Many units do work with T-Mobile, T-Mobile MVNO, Mint, Tello, US Mobile, Infimobile, and other T-Mobile-based SIMs after Metro activation, sometimes immediately after a reboot. A few units reportedly stay Metro-only, so compatibility is not guaranteed.

  • Yes. The NXTPAPER display is repeatedly described as matte, paper-like, and much closer to e-ink than a normal LCD, with less glare and reduced eye fatigue for reading. It can also look muted or show glare at certain angles because of the etched matte surface.

  • The phone unlocks 365 days after the first activation date. Only the first month of paid service is needed, and several comments say there is no need to keep paying monthly service after that first month.

  • Yes. The phone has Wi‑Fi, so it can still be used for reading, media, GPS, and other apps on Wi‑Fi even after Metro service is shut off or expires.

  • Yes. Google Maps can download offline maps, and other apps like CoMaps and HERE can store whole regions offline, so the phone can work well as a GPS device without mobile data.

Yes. Google Maps (and probably other mapping applications) allows users to download offline maps for free. Google has a page with step by step instructions. I think all variants of Google Maps support this; I have done it on Android, iPhone, Android Auto, tablets, etc. As long as you have GPS, you can use Maps without internet. Some limitations are that you won't have traffic data or alerts which requires an internet connection, but the core navigation works great.
You can also use other mapping applications that let you download whole regions. CoMaps and HERE maps let you do this.

Yeah this seems like a detail that must have just been added as it shows that for me as well... plus isn't there an activation fee?
Not sure about the activation fee. But i went on incognito on browser and the price reverted back to $0 for new number option. So total was $55 for the line. Ordered instantly with metro Chase offer and CB site offer to make a sweeter deal.

Did the same with the incognito mode.
Wasn't working for me before (have a pre-existing line from the iPhone 16e promo)

Still shows FREE to me with newline. I guess using a different browser or system (pc/phone) might help?

How does this compare to the Moto G Stylus 2025?
The processor has near identical benchmark scores.
The GPU is 35% better on the Moto G Stylus 2025.
I haven't seen 1:1 battery benchmarks, but from what I've read, battery life is better on the TCL NXTPAPER 70 Pro.

Which one you pick is a matter of preference.
Do you prefer an OLED screen for media consumption, gaming, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a sleeker design with slimmer bezels? Pick the Moto G Stylus 2025.

If you do a lot of reading and look at static content, then pick the TCL NXTPAPER 70 Pro.
Personally, I'm going to get both and use the 70 Pro as a Wi-Fi only device to read articles and watch videos at night. It has blue light purification technology that reduces it down to 3.41%

The Moto G Stylus 2025 will be used as my daily driver.

Doesn't Android Night mode already remove all blue light?

Just received my one. It's a superfine phone for the price. Just had one question: Does anyone know how many days do I have before activating it online? Can I activate it after 30-45 days after delivery?

To some extent.

On TCL's marketing pictures it looks like the projected image on the screen is passed through a blue light filter. The blue light reduction works across all screen modes, this means you don't have to apply the warm yellow night mode tint for the blue light reduction benefits.

It is a lie when we heard that metro will unlock your phone without paying extra service months when 365 days passed.Because it asked your account is active to unlock phone meaning you have to keep your service to have your account active. Without paying additional service months means your account won't be active so that it will not meet the one of the requirements (criteria) for unlocking the phone.Once you port your phone number out of Metro by T-Mobile to a new carrier, your service line is automatically cancelled and the account associated with that number is terminated. The porting process acts as a cancellation signal to Metro, ensuring your number moves to the new carrier. Therefore, you will not get your phone unlocked eventually because metro said you cannot unlock more than two phones within 12 months per account. It can explain the reason it asked "You must bring your own device (BYOD) to get this offer; devices purchased at Metro are not eligible. Limit one multi-month discount per account."https://slickdeals.net/f/19337799-20-mo-unlimited-5g-data-metro-plan-metros-new-20-per-month-6-month...
I bought 3 iPhones in one account last year. After a year, all 3 iPhones unlocked by themselves. Only paid the first 30 day service on all 3.

But did you port any of those numbers out in the first month or soon afterwards?
