I would avoid orbit. I have two smart controllers and 8 of the smart hose timers. Initially they were great 6-7 years ago, no bugs, always worked. Now they are the most buggy pos that I'm probably going to replace them with this deal.
All of them get random rain delays even though I've disabled smart watering on all them. The rain delays are some times set to years. I've seen 2, 7, and 19 years get set. Just this year they all started randomly turning off in the middle of a cycle. They'll start and then run anywhere from 10 seconds to a couple min and just turn off before finishing a cycle. They never did that before. Every year it's a new problem added to existing old problems. They are not trust worthy.
It's not just one device it's all 10 of them. They are at two different houses so it's not even the same Internet or Wi-Fi that could be the cause. The common thing among them all is the bhyve software.

Agree, my bhyve sucks. I thought it was a deal at $40 but nooope. Sometimes it just randomly doesn't connect so my inputs or watering schedules don't run. Only way to get it working again is a hard reset. I could get a smart plug to remotely do it if I'm not home but it has one job. Open the valves when programmed and it can't do that reliably.
I've had the 16 zone for over a year now. It's been such a saving grace being able to add in schedules on a whim and not have to fiddle with the physical controller
We've had a Rachio 2 for about a decade now, and honestly it's so easy to use there's no real reason to upgrade. They've slowly added minor quality of life improvements to the free app so I can't really complain (I know right, actually getting better over time instead of the usual enshittification).

Check out https://rachio.com/rebates. My water agency provides a rebate and my first Rachio (Gen 2 - 8 zone) cost me $25+tax after the rebate. Rachio has its quirks (can't add a scheduled run, can't re-schedule a scheduled run), but it's pretty reliable.
I've had this same model for over a year now. I love that it's synced with the weather forecast and will not turn on when it rains or it's windy. It reduces water usage in the winter and increases in the summer. I've had to repair a couple of sprinkler heads recently and turning on/off the individual zones from your phone is an awesome feature. Check your local water company for rebates. I ended up getting mine for free.
This is one of of my smart devices that I truly love. How convenient it makes it for water scheduling even repairing don't have to run back and forth in the garage to turn it on and off.
I have the 8-zone bought in 2016. It works great, no issues. I do the smart programming so it does the irrigation based on the weather and plants. I paired it with a rain sensor too.
