This EGO 8000 series mower stands out for strong cutting power, self propulsion, and a dual blade setup that feels like a real upgrade over the base model. The 7.5Ah battery is often described as good for roughly 30 to 60 minutes, with fast charging around 40 minutes, and the mower handles thick grass, weeds, and even wet lawns better than expected. The main cautions are weight and battery longevity, since it is still a heavy machine and runtime drops in dense or tall grass. A practical pick for medium yards if you value electric convenience and can work within the battery limits.

  • Buyers who already own compatible batteries or can use the spare elsewhere, because the extra battery can be returned or repurposed to lower the mower's net cost.

  • Homeowners with a medium yard who want a quieter electric mower, because the 7.5Ah battery can cover about a quarter acre to an hour of mowing.

  • People mowing thick or overgrown grass who want strong cutting power, because the dual-blade setup and extra torque handle dense turf better than basic models.

  • Owners who want a low-maintenance alternative to gas, because it avoids oil and filter changes and can keep working for years with proper battery care.

  • Shoppers expecting battery ownership to be worry-free for years, because lithium packs can degrade and may need replacement outside warranty.

  • People with very thick, tall grass who expect uninterrupted mowing, because it can jam three to four times per mow in dense turf.

  • Homeowners with large lawns around an acre, because a single 7.5Ah battery is only good for about a quarter acre on level ground.

  • Buyers who need a lightweight mower for lifting or storage, because this model is heavy even though self-propel helps on the lawn.

My local Lowe's will not let me return the 5Ah battery even though it's listed separately with a promotional price of $218. I will try a different Lowe's.

I've been using Ego mower for three years now, the most basic one on 1/4 acre . I like how quite it is compared to my neighbor's gas mower

Just discovered why: Colorado offers a 30% instant discount on new electric-powered lawn equipment (mowers, blowers, trimmers, snow blowers) at specific retailers like Ace until the end of the year.Note that this does include a free battery, you just have to add it to the cart in the "special offers" section of Ace.
Thank you for this info. I was able to grab the 22 in aluminum deck one for 812 after tax from Ace

I did the same for the same reason. However, the gas now seems to contain much more ethanol than my lawnmower(s) like to swallow, and I've been having all kinds of fuel-related issues
pure-gas dot org still works to find a gas station that sells ethanol free I think...there are about half dozen stations in my area. I have always used ethanol free in my generator and mowers just to save me hassle of cleaning the carb, it's a little more expensive but I only go through a few jugs all year so it's not a big deal.

Which gas mower do you recommend?
Honda with a plastic deck. Even used ones are normally in great shape.

Good to know! Thanks for the data point. I think it's still a gut-check for some/most when going from gas to electric. Gas motor failure is likely due to owner neglect, so those of us who meticulously maintain them are likely to get well over a decade of service. Whereas batteries seem to fail more randomly with less attributable to care/neglect.
I think a lot has to do with how people treat their batteries. If you keep the battery in a hot shed or garage that will degrade it much faster. If you instantly throw it on the charger after mowing, aka keep the battery at 100% 24/7 that makes a huge difference as well in terms of degrading it. Keep the battery in a cool place and don't recharge it until you need it, aka the day before you plan to mow. A ton of good scientific research exists on lithium ion cells, just be familiar with the basics and you'll do well!

Im one of those guys who believes the oil that came with the mower is the oil that leaves with the mower. I'll add some as it burns off, but generally I have yet to lose a mower because the engine stopped - it's everything else. The Honda HRX I bought used is on its ninth year and starts first pull - same (black) oil it came with. The craftsman I had before lasted until the wheels fell off lol. This bullshit about meticulous maintenance ...

Amazon is showing the battery as $177.29 on my end. Assuming if I return it - I'll get this amount instead of the $218 others are talking about. Is this the case for everyone else as of now?

Battery powered lawnmower? How long is the stock battery good for? I got one acre grass field to trim. Not sure this is for me
If you're trimming an acre grass field with a push mower, you're doing it wrong.

Genuinely, there is almost no reason to not be on a riding mower at that size. That would have to be 2-3 hours of mowing with a push mower. If you can afford this, you can definitely find a used riding mower in that range.
