I'm sure you can find it on Ali for cheaper if you are willing to wait on shipping. Flashforge has all of the files to print out on their website, but I went with this remixed version that uses way less plastic and prints much faster: https://www.printables.
Lots of helpful information in the comments there too. There are a lot of pieces, but I used it to learn the software and the basics of printing in general. I printed it in PETG and had zero problems using the preset on the machine. Mine is set up in the garage, so the camera has been great to make sure everything is behaving.
Flashforge did an excellent job stripping down to the most basic features of modern printers to hit this price point. Core XY printer, network support, reliable printing at modern printer speeds and quality. No need for excessive tweaking which is frustrating and has a much higher learning curve.
AD5M drawbacks vs other higher end single color printers. Bed size (220cm instead of 250cm), no camera for remote monitoring, not enclosed (not ideal for ABS), decent software but not as accessible as Bambu Labs, no auto nozzle wiping/poop chute.
Still, these seem like the perfect compromises, since PLA and PETG is the vast majority of prints and the reliability and quality of this printer is arguably better than printers several times its cost from brands like Creality, Anycubic, and Elegoo. Honestly, I'd be hard pressed to decide between this and the standard Bambu Labs A1 which is about twice the cost, but a bed slinger, larger bed, slower print, easier software, equally reliable.
Easy Upgrade paths: $30-$50 enclosure kit for ABS, Any web cam for camera support.
Love that the upgrade path for ABS printing is so reasonable and easy, since you can start printing at a lower price point to see if you plan to continue printing, then decide later if you need an enclosed printer without feeling you have to pay a premium for the feature. ABS is marginally more expensive than PETG/PLA, but it comes in useful if printing functional pieces like coat racks or replacement fixtures.
Set my nephew up with an AD5M to replace his Ender 3v3se. I have a P2S combo, but I liked it so much I would buy another AD5M if I could get it at this price where I am as a second printer. In fact, I may have gotten a couple of these at half the cost of my P2S, then waited for tool changers to drop in price, if I knew what I knew now. 95% of what I printed I could have done with this printer.
