Does this have any plastic in the water path?

The idea of these is great but I hear more negative than positive about them

We have had a Flo for three years now and absolutely love it. Haven't had any problems. I like that there's an easy physical valve as well as the smart/app controlled one. Haven't had any problems. It has occasionally decided an off-schedule shower is a peak but it calls before it turns the water off lol

What is the best use case for this product? Like if it leaks, and you are away from home?

that or even when your home as well. It detects micro leaks that you wouldn't know about that can cause major damage over time...

Yes, being able to remotely shut off the water if there is indication of a leak

Does this work with smart things? Home assistant?

How expensive are the extra sensors?

and actually, it can and will auto-shutoff if a leak is detected, without manual intervention. Sometimes it's too sensitive - like someone taking a shower at an odd time, longer than normal, it'll kill the water.

It does - but not local, just cloud polling. which means they can just arbitrarily decide it's not worth their time, or that they can extract more cash from you by NOT allowing that to happen (like MyQ).

I think smart water leaking detection devices (at 10%-20% of this price) will suffice already. Auto shutoff is great only if you don't have neighbors, friends or family nearby. Doing it insurance becomes the main reason.

NJM reduced my premiums like 5% from this.

One advice, my model the turn knob is green, unsure if that means it's an older version as this costco one it's blue. THere's a magnetic spinner inside the device that as water flows it spins. The exposed magnet can rust which happened to me a year in and it no longer measured water flow. Moen replace the entire unit for me for free and before I installed the new replacement I put a little water based silicone over the magnetic parts and it's been 4 years with no issues.

Im on the fence between this product and the other style that uses an actuator to manually turn off your existing water valve. I like that style because it doesn't require a plumber to install and you can take it with you at a future move.
