Isn't this decent for the specs? 8gb of RAM for android 13. Is that bad? I know 14 is the newest, but isn't this better than something like the Logitech G cloud?

Edit: oof I didnt realize Android 16 is the latest. I guess hard pass on this unless there's a newer Rom for it.

Yeah, the specs are indeed decent for the price.
You'll find that the vast majority of these retro consoles do not use the latest Android version. Some can run custom firmware options. Looks like this one is supported by GammaOS Next, for example.

(For a small subset designed for Android (not this one), Rocknix linux is an aftermarket option.)

Most android devices run on older android versions, that's just the nature of android. It's not like windows or iPhone or Mac where you can upgrade almost any device to the newest version without much effort.

Android 16 came out a year ago.

This is a good deal if you want to play up to N64 and Dreamcast with basically fully compatibility. It will play many PS2 and Gamecube titles if you are willing to tinker, run at only 1x resolution, try PAL games, etc, but RetroGameCorps catalog lists the RG Slide and T820 equipped devices as having 76% compatibility with PS2, and 85% for Gamecube. PS2 games can be a bit challenging for this chipset.

https://retrocatalog.com/retro-ha...s/rg-slide

To get better coverage of PS2 and Gamecube titles, you'd have to upgrade to something with a Snapdragon 865 or Dimensity 8300, like a Retroid Pocket 5 or Anbernic RG 477m / 477v.

To compare this to other T820 equipped devices, I can't find any for less than $140 shipped, so this is the lowest cost I can find for a T820 handheld. The RG Slide launched at $180-$190 less than a year ago, so if you like the form factor and 4:3 screen, it's really a pretty good deal. Personally, I already have a G350, RG 477v and Konkr Pocket Fit, so I have no need for it. I would find it tempting if I didn't have any of those devices and I was on a $100-$125 budget.

Reviews are pretty good overall. Just know what you're buying so you won't be disappointed.

For something like this the newest level of Android can actually be bad...real bad, most emulators are not mainstream apps therefore they have not gotten the approval from the all mighty Google Play Services...or likely ever will (nor do they really care to).

FWIW, if you want a Android 16 emulator your best bet is to repurpose a newer phone. Even higher end emulators like the Ayn Thor are still rocking 13.

I bought the white version for the same price a month ago. Solid machine, I installed GammaOS (Android 14) and it works well. The joysticks are not great for my hands, the analogs are tiny. The triggers position are awkward and hurts my hands. Still a great device for the price.

Def a good price for what you're getting. I had purchased the RG406H almost a year ago for $135 which has the same chip so make of that what you will...
