Pretty much useless unless you only have direct injection.

My toyota has direct and port injection. At 150k miles I snaked a borescope down the intake and peeked at 3 cylinders intakes (one bank of the v6)... all were pretty clean

Yes, it will not work with GDi or direct injection engine as fuel does not pass the valves. You need seafoam or crc intake valve cleaner for that

Stuff like this has been shown to not do much of anything.

If you really want to clean your intake/valves then you need to add it directly to the instakle system. A cheap can of carb/brake cleaner sprayed through a vacuum/PCV line or throttle body while running will do so much more than anything you add to your gas.
