I've got a couple of acers, and one of them has been fabulous. The one I'm typing on now, however, is a couple of years old now and not my favorite; I'm still slowly coming to terms with it. The other has been the most reliable computer I've ever owned (and I've owned a LOT).

This looks like a good deal, but I'd offer two cautions with it (#1 affects all/most brands now though) so I'd be prepared to download Powertoys (99.1 is current I think). You're gonna need it.

1) For those that know how to type..... Make sure you can remap that worthless F'ing co-pilot key to something useful, like, oh, I don't know, maybe a R-Ctrl key???

Co-pilot sucks (so does Win 11, but...) and at least 50% of the world knows it.... I was able to remap a new $2500+ Dell Pro Max Premium, but people are still really pissed at Dell. Ask the question first if you're a touch typist or have any other restrictions (left handed and blind people reportedly hate that Co-Pilot key). I don't have one of those dreaded keys on either Acer (dodged a bullet... or two..)...

2) the function keys are small, and in some cases not always helpful. On one of mine, I especially dislike the F-key screen brightness control. It goes from too dim to too bright, with no ability for fine control it (even in the bios). The key or bios could be more granular in this newer, and probably superior in most respects, model but just be aware.

Again, I don't actually know if the problem applies to this model, but if it does, once again, the new version of Powertoys can help with an option called "Power Display" which can popup a small a granular slider; I use it more than I would like in dim conditions. I just found it about a week ago and have used it 50 times already.

Oh yeah, the keyboard backlight settings are crude too (on this one, but newer ones may be better). Pausing a few seconds makes the keyboard go dark, so I always have to press some [non destructive] key like Left Ctrl to get it back. I'm - too often- typing late at night or early in the morning, so it's a pain to me.... Powertoys can't help here....

Totally agree with you on the key mapping. I had it on my old Acer Spin 3 as well, because idk whose bright idea was to have tiny left and right arrow keys with pgup and pgdown just above it. I had to remap those keys with left and right arrow keys as well using the same powertoys software.
I have the HP OmniBook X Flip now, and that co-pilot key on the right side is an absolute nuisance and an enemy of productivity.

Co pilot and the key should be nuked from every computer; it has caused 100's of millions to billions of $ in problems (literally)... F MS.

I own the 32GB RAM, 4070 version of this laptop and it's among my favorites. Lots of power in a very portable, very discreet package. Excellent build quality, great display, great performance. Runs LLMs and does AI imaging easily, and the 14.5" display may not sound like much over a 14", but the difference is bigger than you might expect. I much prefer this laptop to my 14" G14, for example.

This was super helpful and insightful good sir. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Helps more than you know and beyond this specific Acer.

Given the RAM crisis, this isn't a terrible price.

The 155h is 2 years old now and on a vivobook 16 I can't get near the advertised battery life that was supposed to be an advantage of meteor lake.

No, I haven't seen it for sale in quite some time. I bought it at my local Microcenter for $1,199, if I recall correctly. Now they are only selling the 5070 model.

In what ways do you think this is better than your G14?

Here are a few: build quality, better portability (eg, larger display yet lower weight), very discreet looks (suitable in business environments in a way G14s are not), better value (price to performance), runs at full performance on a super-tiny Anker Nano 100W charger. The larger display also makes it much better for anything having to do with imaging (eg, Photoshop, Krita, Stable Diffusion, etc.)

It's not as good for sustained gaming loads (its single-fan thermal solution is nowhere near as good as that of the G14) but that doesn't matter to me as I've got much more powerful computers for gaming, and it's still enough to play some of my favorite games (eg, Insurgency Sandstorm, DIRT Rally 1 & 2, RRE, etc.) for hours without a problem. It also has much crappier audio than the G14 (though most people seem unaware that there are many audio tweaks available in software and it's easily possible to make it sound way better than it does out of the box).

The G14 is very good at gaming. The Swift X 4070 is good enough at everything. It just a more versatile laptop and generally found at a much better price. As I wrote above, mine cost me $1,199 at a time when an equivalently specced G14 was selling for closer to $2k. I've owned 2 G14s, actually (including the original), and I would take my Swift X over each of them.
There must be close to two dozen laptops in my household right now (including Lenovo Legions, ASUS TUFs, G14s, G16s, etc, and I'm not kidding when I say that, as an overall package, my Swift X is one of my favorites.
