If you qualify to shop at AAFES, it's significantly cheaper there, with a tax-free price of $1,999.

And silver is not a $200 upcharge, and no sales tax.

Microcenter had this for $1,799 not that long ago.

(I realize not everyone has a Microcenter, just sharing for those that do)

Only 24GB of RAM 👎
Pretty sufficient for most people… If not excessive for most personal use of a Mac.

I bought one with 48 GB and 1 TB
I have not come close to using all the memory, no matter how much I throw at it. People don't understand how the Mac uses memory. It will try to fill all available memory by caching software, documents, web pages, you name it… it uses all the memory it can, but this is instantly purged or compressed as more memory is needed. The only measure of memory that measures is a gauge they call "Memory Pressure."
My prior system was the M1 Pro with 16 GB of RAM and only managed to push memory pressure hard a few times, when using many applications alongside a Docker LLM app, which is a notorious memory hog. But no problem editing 4K videos or 45 Mpixel RAW photos.
So, long story short, a 24 GB M5 Pro is a tremendously powerful computer.
Whats more, this model with M5 Pro isn't just a faster CPU, it includes 80 gb/s Thunderbolt 5. So as external SSDs get faster, you'll be able to get even faster SSDs than they have today. And the internal 1 TB SSD is twice as fast as the SSD of the M4 series SDD. There is a lot to love about this laptop!

B&H might look polished online, but people should do their homework before blindly trusting them. The company has faced multiple discrimination lawsuits over the years, including federal cases involving treatment of Hispanic workers, and they've also had hundreds of BBB complaints filed by customers. On top of that, there have been recurring complaints online about customer service, shipping issues, and questionable promo handling. For a company this big, the pattern is hard to ignore. I'd think twice before giving them my money.(bbb.org)
