Deal HistoryÂ
Deal History includes data from multiple reputable stores, such as Best Buy, Target, and Walmart. The lowest price among stores for a given day is selected as the "Sale Price".
Sale Price does not include sale prices at Amazon unless a deal was posted by a community member.
This is the going price from a variety of vendors right now for this and similar models; the 15" is reduced too.
The real benefit with Amazon is the 5% Prime Visa discount and the 5% educational discount; many will get another 10% discount off of this, which makes a good deal that much better.
That said, I just bought a Neo for $499 at Apple Edu, should be here in 3 weeks or so.
I think Costco has it for the same price. Not sure if you can get those other discounts from Costco. With the NEO being a good deal, unclear if it is worth an extra $250 for an additional fast port and 8 GB of additional ram. 8GB is weak in 2026 but many reviewers say it is enough for email and web. Screen size really isn't that much different when you factor in the Air has a notch and the NEO doesn't. Hide the task bar and the NEO has the same usable space.

Backlight KB was the dealbreaker for my wife with the Neo. Otherwise on paper at least the Neo seemed like it would meet her needs. I ended up ordering one of these Airs from Costco (extra yr warranty).

My laptop will spend most of its' time attached to a USBC hub/dock, a 1080p HDMI monitor, a mouse, and a keyboard.
The main users of the Neo are touch typists or nearly so.
But - Apple just made getting the Edu discount significantly more difficult - Amazon is now probably the best deal for an entry level Mac now, with that 5% + 5% discount many can get.

They are both great, the neo replaced a chromebook that google has done their best to nerf, and the air replaced my PC because I had enough of Windows. The neo is the real deal but the keyboard and click of trackpad remind me of the old crappy butterfly keys. Its that bad, the air isn't much better and much worse IMHO than my mbp which has great keyboard. Even the new air has a click trackpad, that one threw me but its in clamshell mode most of the time. The air is very fast, no real need for a PC anymore unless you need to game.

Close, but not quite. Both MBP and MB Air ('the new Air') have Apple's Force Touch trackpad - it's the same mechanism. Are you noticing the size difference perhaps?
Others do not notice quite that level of keyboard difference (I can't tell a big difference between MBP M3 and MBN), also. Hmm. Not saying it's not there, just that it's not a huge difference.
