Great deal op. The fly more combo was just too cheap to pass up.

As someone very naive to owning drones (I've flown someone else's mavic 3) how user friendly- object avoidance/ land itself kinda stuff - is this?

It's very user friendly, it'll take off and land from the palm of your hand and do quite a few different shots without even opening the app. Object avoidance is pretty good for what it is, but it also has prop guards and is fairly tough.

If you've flown a Mavic 3 you'll do fine with this. The app controller isn't as precise as a real controller but it does well enough.

Great entry price into the DJI drone world. Is DJI still "the best" or are there some good alternative brands with a "better" typical price tag, especially regarding accessories? Do I understand correctly that even without the separate charging hub, you can just unplug the battery and charge it separately? Or does it have to be hooked up to the drone?

For $139, is it worth getting for take photos?
Any why thumbs down on every comment?

I believe some people try to increase their chances of winning the daily prize so they randomly go to the next post and thumbs up if they are nice, and thumbs down if not.

My guess for the thumbs down is because of the existence of the Neo 2. While it provides significant updates—especially in collision avoidance—it's twice as expensive, so unless you have the budget for the 2, this is a decent price to get you started.

I have this and it's use case is quite limited. First of all, I love it. I had the Snapchat Pixy until it got recalled and I bought this. I mainly use it as a selfie drone when I travel. This is a VERY good price for an beginner/entry/casual drone. I paid $240 (launch and fly more pack) and I thought it was worth it.
That said, please be aware that there are SIGNIFICANT restrictions on where you can fly it. As others have said, yes, there are NO obstacle avoidance cameras or sensors on this. You will need to have to have a wide-open berth of open area around you. You also can't fly it over water, e.g., pools, lakes, ocean, etc. Also, if you live close to an airport, you may not be able to fly your drone there. Many cities like Tokyo, Beijing, have city wide bans on drones. I tried to fly it at a California state beach and was told I can't fly it there. You also can't fly it if it's too windy. Be aware of the shrill whine of the drone. So, if you're indoors, it may be a nuisance to others. Even outdoors, if there are a lot of people, it will be a nuisance. Again, there are just a ton of restrictions. Purchase with your eyes wide open.
On the occasions and places where you can fly it, it is indeed fun! The fascination from others watching it follow you is endearing. Many have come up to ask what it is and how it works. Someone even asked if it's 'magic!' The footage is stable and clear. The software, although kind of basic, is intuitive and easy to use. At this price, I'd highly recommend it!

Since no one answered your question... No, it doesn't take great photos. It's pretty good for videos though!

If you don't use the charging hub, the only way to charge the battery is the keep the battery pack on the drone and charge the drone.

I've posted a 'review' below. But to answer your questions.
  1. It's incredibly user friendly and intuitive.
  2. It does NOT have any obstacle avoidance functionality or sensors. You'll need a wide-open space when you fly it, free of obstacles.
  3. Lands wonderfully and consistently in your palm.
