Great entry price into the DJI drone world. Is DJI still "the best" or are there some good alternative brands with a "better" typical price tag, especially regarding accessories? Do I understand correctly that even without the separate charging hub, you can just unplug the battery and charge it separately? Or does it have to be hooked up to the drone?
DJI is still pretty much the best.

The only thing in this price range that competes with it is a refurbished Potensic Atom SE / SE2. They were $100 over christmas (I got one) but more expensive now.

But this Neo Mini is probably best for the average hobbyist since they have prop guards which is FAA required if you want to fly over "crowded areas" (beach, etc). You are not allowed to fly over crowded areas with exposed propellers.

Looking at the Amazon pictures, the Potensic atom probably has better picture quality given it uses a SONY sensor.

Flight time on the DJI is a little short being 15 minutes, my Potensic goes 30 minutes. Also range will be limited with the DJI with it being WIFI controlled. This is strictly a device meant to be used in visual line of sight.

For $139, is it worth getting for take photos?
Any why thumbs down on every comment?
I didn't put thumbs down but I would never purchase a drone that doesn't come with a controller. Now it is compatible with some of the newer controllers if you have one but that would also mean you already have a pretty new dji drone, then the question is whether buying a second dji drone with less features is worthwhile. For most people probably not.

I have this and it's use case is quite limited. First of all, I love it. I had the Snapchat Pixy until it got recalled and I bought this. I mainly use it as a selfie drone when I travel. This is a VERY good price for an beginner/entry/casual drone. I paid $240 (launch and fly more pack) and I thought it was worth it.That said, please be aware that there are SIGNIFICANT restrictions on where you can fly it. As others have said, yes, there are NO obstacle avoidance cameras or sensors on this. You will need to have to have a wide-open berth of open area around you. You also can't fly it over water, e.g., pools, lakes, ocean, etc. Also, if you live close to an airport, you may not be able to fly your drone there. Many cities like Tokyo, Beijing, have city wide bans on drones. I tried to fly it at a California state beach and was told I can't fly it there. You also can't fly it if it's too windy. Be aware of the shrill whine of the drone. So, if you're indoors, it may be a nuisance to others. Even outdoors, if there are a lot of people, it will be a nuisance. Again, there are just a ton of restrictions. Purchase with your eyes wide open.On the occasions and places where you can fly it, it is indeed fun! The fascination from others watching it follow you is endearing. Many have come up to ask what it is and how it works. Someone even asked if it's 'magic!' The footage is stable and clear. The software, although kind of basic, is intuitive and easy to use. At this price, I'd highly recommend it!
Thank you!

Except since the Neo 2 is not sold in the US, you can only buy it from overseas sources, which limits its pricing.

This is great information. The part about it bothering others is valid and while I know I shouldn't let others dictate my fun, Ive mostly quit flying drones because of it. It just seemed that more and more there will be at least someone with a problem about it.

I have some previous DJ Mavic Drones. But the whole regulation put me off on it. HOWEVER, I travel to Asia and it is a hassle to bring those other drones. Would this be fine for take scenery shots at local beaches and national parks in countries like Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia?

I guess this works with a phone app vs a dedicated controller?
