If you have the Amex Offer, remember that it stacks on top of sale prices. $45 back on $150+ purchase.

These fall under "buy for life" for build quality, design, practicality, and support/warranty. I bought mine almost 10 years ago, use it daily, and have traveled the world with it — it easily carries 40+ lbs of gear without a complaint. Cost-per-use math has been pretty hard to beat.

$330 list for a backpack seems a couple of orders of magnitude greater than outrageous!I looked at the website and everything seems overpriced. But I suppose these prices are necessary to allow the company to carry out its mission, which is stated as:"We exist to build happy and meaningful lives for the people that work here."I kind of always thought that companies existed to service customers and provide a potential customers with a positive buying experience. But perhaps this is old school, non-Gen Y thinking?

Don't know enough to comment on the quality of the bag but white color for an outdoor / hiking backpack is a terrible idea

This guy never owned a PD. That said, their products are considered premium and should buy discounted. This particular bag is a rare miss, so buyer beware. Read the PD reviews on their main site.

North Face Surge is under $100 when on sale, regular price of $150. Higher end, Incase Icon are regularly $150-$199. If you're into the sustainable aspects, Cotopaxi have a range of backpacks that are largely under $200. Even Patagonia's are generally under $200 and fall into the $150 range on moderate sales. I use and love the Peak camera straps and even supported some of their Kickstarters. Their phone case system is definitely cool and useful, but their backpacks are overpriced.
You're comparing commuter backpacks to an outdoor backpack. This is nonsense and nobody should take this seriously.

PD's customer service has always been great. They gave me basically no question asked replacements several times over the years for bags, camera straps etc. That said their camera bag had terrible suspension so I'm not confident in an outdoor backpack from them. But stacking the AMEX offer and a welcome code it come to like $110, I guess it's gonna be worth a try.

Can anyone comment on strap comfort? I was looking into their travel pack and many people complained that the straps were not comfortable.
