They fly really well, but they do not have obstacle avoidance so keep that in mind.
They also are a VERY squirrely when they come in to land. My other drones were more stable landing. These tend to hunt all over the place when they hover. They are ok as long as you have some movement on the stick. They also don't like to be caught for in air landings, which will be a good thing flying lures out, but not so great in certain situations.. as outlined below.
My first one Atom 2 is at the bottom of the Pacific (I'm sorry fishes). Trying to land on a boat is much harder than i expected. I almost had it down but it got squirrely so I flew up to avoid crashing into the boat's marker light. While coming in for attempt number 2 it returned to home due to low battery and by the time I over rode it in the menu system, it didn't have enough battery to get back to the boat and force landed in the ocean.
I learned some major lessons from that experience.
1.) Make sure the boat isn't trolling, even when it's not moving, it's still moving.
2.) Turn off return to home
3.) Don't try to have a perfect landing on a hard surface when the landing area is tiny, catch it in the air
4) Always download new videos at every battery change. I lost some amazing videos which is what pisses me off the most.
5.) These are so light, a small piece of foam taped to the bottom of the drone would have kept it on top of the water for recovery, but may have not saved it from getting saltwater splashes.
6.) If you're close to shore and you know you're $#$&#(# with less than 15% battery, fly it to the shore and hope you can retrieve it later.
With that said. I bought two more a couple of weeks ago during their refurb sale when the costco bundle was $220. They are an amazing drone for the money, and at that price it's not a huge loss if you lose one.
