What if the the 2-3 times a year I use my impact driver I just use my regular sockets? But while I am doing it I just really hope it does not blow up in my face?

For just a couple of bolts, you're better off using a long ratchet with your regular sockets. Using an impact on non-impact sockets is risky; expensive ones will get ruined, and cheap ones might shatter. Wear safety glasses if you try it!

If you don't use them that much just get a harbor freight set. I've seen them for $20.
