Appears this has known issues of the release door getting stuck open. Definitely not worth this price with the issues!

20V spreader? Why? Scotts sells a AA battery powered spreader for ~$25. That's sufficient for my lawn, but perhaps a 20V is needed for a larger garden or giant lawn? Why walk, then?

There are two ways to look at this:
  • A 59$ spreader, that comes with a 5ah battery and charger, but you can get other 59$ spreaders (like the Workpro) that are essentially the same and have a built in battery / charger
  • An $89 5ah battery + charger kit that happens to come with a free spreader, eh, not too bad
If I just wanted a Craftsman battery / charger I'd spend $10 more and get the 6ah tabless ( https://www.lowes.com/pd/CRAFTSMA...5017401387 )

not really a deal unless sub $40-50 - otherwise just go Ali. Retailers need to reality check themselves, for they reck dem selves

Tool only in the store was $49 today...might be a better deal if you have tons of batteries

I have a slightly different viewpoint. Maybe you are already in the craftsman ecosystem and are looking for an additional battery. At that point, this thing is really only $10 more than the 5.0 ah battery alone. Doesn't seem like a terrible deal, and that seems to be the way they price these deals.

I don't have this unit but I've been very happy with my craftsman tools, all bought o super sale or clearance. The string trimmer gets heavy use and the spindle refills on Amazon from a third party are literally a couple dollars. I wouldn't mind a 5.0ah battery to get the entire property done in one charge, but I make do with 2x 2.0ah units that I got with my bundles.

As an aside, I have the Scott's unit you're mentioning that I bought for $10 in the winter clearance at target. It's ok, but it definitely gets clogged up sometimes. At $10 I just deal with it. Use it mostly for spreading salt.

Salt! OK I see why a 20V spreader could be good for heavier material like salt flakes and I didn't consider the battery value a part of consideration.
