Another garment post without any mention of composition. We've gotta be better than this.

70% cotton, 30% polyester (recycled)

Picked one of these up last time. Good quality, heavy shirt, but huge front pocket

These are great for price but shrunk really bad a d they are already tight fit. No matter cold wash, warm wash and not dryer, they shrink. Something to do with the fabric I bet.

Can you help me understand what you take away from the garment breakdown? It means nothing to me but I am clearly missing something

Some people don't value polyester clothing and usually for good reason. It's always good to be informed. Why don't you care to know what you are wearing?

I am asking genuinely, it was not sarcastic or antagonistic…genuinely what makes it concerning (for my knowledge)?

I agree they are super tight on the arm and shoulder interface and shrink easily. Wore once. Gave both of them away as gifts. These are horrible quality .

Polyester is a synthetic material that is easy and cheap to manufacture. It is the embodiment of manufacturers cutting corners when "Polyblends" come into the picture.

Polyester does not breathe, retains smells, and can cause skin irritation, rashes, and bacterial growth by trapping sweat and heat. Some very cheaply-made polys also are heavily dyed with chemicals that create harmful runoff when washed in the washing machine. Along with the inevitable microplastic leeching, the toxic runoff can end up in local water supplies or local waterways.

Polyester is also often treated with chemicals like formaldehydes (for wrinkle resistance) or PFAS ("forever chemicals" for water, grease, or dirt resistance), which can be absorbed through the skin.

Polyester is dangerous for people, it's dangerous for the environment. Buying into the "fast fashion" trends these days of purely synthetic garments leads to more problems than it solves.

Some relevant info:

This article^ also mentions Adidas' pledge to focus on "recycled" polyester in their garments. This creates an entirely other issue with trying to "greenwash" their marketing by making you feel better about purchasing these poly products since it has this volatile marketing buzzword included.

IMO we need to focus on recycling the massive influx of wasteful plastics on this Earth, but optimally in a way that isn't in direct contact with the skin or the body. Use it to build useful things, just not clothes. Stick to natural fibers.
