You mean the 850 I think. Navigation is pretty annoying with only the buttons, wish I got the 840 instead. To get to some features you need to long press on some buttons.
For $100 more, it's tempting to get the 840 for the touch screen option (sounds like all of the buttons are the same, so no loss of function), on-device routing, and double memory.

Get the touchscreen unless during riding all you do is start-stop. Otherwise Garmin made the navigation menu horrible for buttons, especially when riding.
YMMV - I got an email today from Best Buy giving me a free $10 reward certificate. I also had some points sitting on my account that I've been just banking up to use. I was able to chat with Best Buy support to get them to price match the Amazon sale, since BBY has it listed at $267.99. So if you got that promo from Best Buy it sweetens this deal by bringing it down to $239.99.
Not much of a problem because you can lock and unlock it with a quick push of a button when conditions dictate it.
And on the 840 you can access every function with the buttons anyway. You can leave the touchscreen off and only turn it on when you need to browse the map.
I just bought this model 6 months ago and compared to my other basic Magene model without GPS maps, it's a whole new world. I haven't had any problems with disconnecting or losing rides, routing and importing/exporting with Strava is fast and easy, I love how all my local climbs are profiled, battery is way more than I need, slightly more compact size is what I prefer, and all my sensors (including ones from AliExpress) connect with no problem. I recommend it! Oh, and I prefer the buttons over touchscreen because I ride in the rain, spill my water bottle and drip sweat- I feel like I want to avoid potential screen swiping issues or problems. Buttons are more reliable to me.
Do you have any recommendations on the sensors/sellers on Ali?

I have tried heart rate monitors, cadence, and speed sensors from Magene, Coospo, and Xoss. Of those, Coospo was just slightly less reliable with the HRM which died after about 5,000 miles. I am using Xoss speed and cadence now and they are working fine except I wish I would have picked the newer thinner models- clearance between crank arm and chainstay is tight. Of all three, I would recommend Magene for all sensors. If you can afford it, the mid or higher end HRM is a really good buy (don't have the model numbers handy I can edit them in later). I've only had problems with the Coospo for a combined 14,000 miles of mixed usage. For the price savings compared the Garmin sensors, I could just buy a replacement and still be ahead.

I'm seeing the H303 and H603 options for the HRM. I thought about trying to use my apple watch for HR, but it seems like it requires a work around. Hopefully this HRM would work on my Concept2 rower, also.

That I can't say for sure. I normally connect with a bike computers. These are all Bluetooth or ANT+ so I wouldn't think there would be a problem.

Sweat/rain dripping on your screen and changing it or not allowing you to change it makes it a gimmick.
