This shape and name suggest it is styled after a Finnish knife, or puukko. Traditional, small, general-purpose belt knife designed for woodcraft, hunting, and daily tasks.

I think I would get Morakniv instead and avoid these Chinese made knives. Cold steel makes some great original designs but these are not one of them.

Not that kind of knife. This is more so to cut fishing bait or apple slices when you're having a picnic. If you're asking for murder weapon/shanking style knives, way better options out there

This has become my go-to kitchen knife. It is comfortable, easy-to-sharpen, and perfect for some tasks like pickling because the broad, tear-drop butt is good for tamping vegetable into jars. Best of all, it's easy to take care of. Has survived many accidental trips through my dishwasher and still looks like the day I bought it 8 or so years ago.

I rate the value high - as it's become my go-to kitchen knife, especially for tasks like pickling because of its handle. It's also tough - has survived many accidental trips through my dishwasher in 8 or so years and still looks I just bought it. After all that, it's not hard to keep sharp. Overall this is a well-balanced, non-pretentious blade. I just wish it fit into my kitchen knife rack because messing with the sheath is an extra step (though the cloth sheath on this finn bear is much more comfortable than the tight, hard plastic sheath on the finn hawk).

You'd be wrong. I've had both for 8+ years and my Morakniv is a major PIA to keep sharp. Air dulls that blade just as fast as usage. My finn bear on the other hand survives daily use in the kitchen, many accidental trips through the dishwasher, takes and keeps and edge easily, and still looks like the day I bought it. I've used the morakniv less than a hundred times and it looks like it's been though a world war - and that's with meticulous oil treatment. Granted - the morakniv is carbon steel so you know what you're getting into. Still, if you calculate value as usage / upkeep, the morakniv gets a 1 out of 10 while my finn bear easily earns a 9 out of 10.
BTW - the reason I use the morakniv so little is that the blade doesn't look food-safe - like it would contribute off-flavors. It looks like a knife that belongs in the bait bucket, not in the kitchen.

You do know that Mora has the 14C28N stainless steel option too. Anyway the point of a Scandi grind knife is woodcraft/outdoors stuff. The carbon steel is better for that job. I happen to have both so I know that carbon steel can be a pain but it sharpens up easily enough.
