I'm not sure what Apple Intelligence is..
But apple intelligence in the generic sense right now is stuff like photo editing, voice transcription, and summarizing emails...very basic stuff in 2026...and stuff you can do easily using free apps out there (that rely on cloud).
My kids use an iPad 7th Gen...a total dinosaur, but works fine for their usage. Duolingo kids, khan academy kids, and YouTube kids.
