I can't believe Costco had this thing for $299 a year ago. I thought I'd wait until I needed it, well I need it now, dang. In for one.

With the current turmoil going on, not surprising.
Likely to continue for the next 3 years also!

I highly suggest you take a look at A1Evo express.
It basically offers comparable Dirac room correction performance for free!
Game changer for D&M owners!

Lol. Why would you think that? I bought this last time it was on the front page. Plenty of power for my Polk Signatures.

This should be sub $300 in my opinion, based on what else is out there, that is or has been close to this price

Will be ok for 3.1. Acceptable barely for 5.1. It lacks power for additional speakers

Agreed on baseless low power claim. It has discreet amps for all channels-from their website: ...This premium, traditional amplifier design uses separate, dedicated electronic components rather than an all-in-one integrated chip, resulting in cleaner power delivery, superior heat dissipation, and the robust, dynamic sound quality Denon is known for.". I have this receiver and really like it although to other points, I got it much cheaper last year.

How does this compare to my old x2300? I love this receiver for my 5.1 setup. Miles ahead of my even older Onkyo and Sony models. Denon sound is just perfect for me and my Klipsch.

I would imagine the equivalent to your 2300 these days would be the 2900, which just came out. You should keep an eye out for discounting on the 2800 but it won't include Dirac like the 2900.

Got two of these on the Costco sale 1.5 years ago- one in a 2.1 turntable setup, and one in a 3.1 home theater setup. The granular control is nice, and being able to group and stream Spotify from both systems at the same time is nice. They are EXCELLENT once you dial in the sound, which can take a bit. I've used both Audyssey and more recently REW + A1 Evo Acoustica for the level/room correction, preferring the latter after a bit of a learning curve (pun slightly intended).

I did have problems with streaming Tidal on them which was obviously a Tidal problem since other services worked fine. It does not support Youtube Music and when trying to stream it using bluetooth, the receiver would frequently stop playing and require power cycling to try again. I gave up on that and just went back to Spotify.

For a 5.1 setup, I'm not sure this will add much if at all.

You're better off going used.
With so many switching to soundbars, you can score a very capable AVR for less than this ime.
Here is a comparison to see the differences:

The 2900 does not offer access to DLBC or ART. Are you claiming/dismissing those as not offering any benefit/value?
Especially if someone uses a subwoofer.

Someone needs to decide if they're on the Dirac train or the A1 Evo train...

If you are interested in 4k/120 with VRR then keep that in mind with an older receiver. That is the reason I went with a new one myself. As far as pure audio capabilities, there probably isn't much. This version of Audyssey is far superior to my older Pioneer Elite and what I have heard on Onkyo, but I can't say if it is better than any older Denon's. The way it corrected the sub is nothing short of spectacular. It is the perfect amount of bass for me.
Another thing that immediately jumped out to me is that the treble on the center channel is not muted like it is on other receivers I have used. It has its pros and cons, but overall I have started to like it more each day. I used to live and die by Re-EQ on my older Integra, but I really don't know any longer. I haven't had a THX Select receiver for a while, and that is the only thing I miss.

Only Denon/Marantz owners get to decide(IF you have the option).

For me, I own all three Dirac licenses(Dl,DLBC,ART) & have used it on other setups.

I have used A1EVO several times also.

In my experience they are very comparable especially compared to Dirac Live(& DLBC imo).
There are plenty of "experts" over on AVS that agree.
Here is only one thread regarding A1EVO:
https://www.avsforum.com/threads/...p.3331417/

You have often boasted that so many people find DLBC & ART very beneficial.
You suggested a AVR that only offers Dirac Live.
Hence the question whether you find DLBC and or ART beneficial or not?
Especially since Dirac Live will cost an extra $300 & A1EVO is free!

Thanks, I think I'll stick with what I have for awhile longer. Seems to work great. I love the separation of channels so much more than my old Onkyo or Sony. My sub is an older SVS which has a phase dial. It's actually next to my couch facing the main speakers, it took me years to finally get it where I wanted it set. The new Audessey likely would do it better, but that damn phase dial is what I think was messing me up for years. Also as much as I want Atmos, I've listened to it at friends homes and just don't get enough difference from my 5.1 setup to justify adding more wires and speakers.
Took me 2 hours to try to clean up some wires around the rack the other day. It really is tiring so I can see why some just buy a nice soundbar these days, but I just love the Denon sound and my equipment. Actually just picked up an old Sonly S790 for $30 on Ebay for regular blurays (use xbox for 4k) and just love it.
Thanks again, enjoy the system!
