Bagsmart's 38L Blast Backpack comes across as a well organized travel bag that works especially well as a personal item and inflight carry. The top opens wide for easy access, it packs like a suitcase from the side, and the sturdy build and logical layout fit one bag travel well. The bundled compression cubes add real value, especially at the $29.97 clearance price. The main drawback is that the large compartment compression strap does not tighten much, and finding actual store stock can be difficult.

Common Questions (5)

  • Yes. The Costco Blast version has the compression-cube bundle and a top that opens around the entire top, while the Amazon version is sold as a different SKU with different branding and a different front-zip layout.

  • The 4-piece packing cubes alone are estimated at about $10-$15, so the bundle is a strong value at $29.97. The backpack itself is also described as roomy and well organized, making the clearance price especially attractive.

  • Yes. The layout is described as very logical for one-bag travel, with the Costco version unzipping around the entire top so small items are easy to reach, especially on flights.

  • Yes. Several comments describe it as a last-unit or hidden clearance item, and app stock can be unreliable, so finding one in a physical warehouse is the main challenge.

  • It can be used as a personal item on most airlines. The bag is also easy to access in-flight from the top or when laid on its side, which makes it practical for one-bag travel.

Different bags - look at the zipper config -

Absolutely agreed they are different bags. Similar but not identical. I actually have 2 of them and one of the biggest differences is the top. The Costco one unzips around the entire top so you can easily see and access small items there. The Amazon one has a zipper in the front where it looks like you'd slide small things into there, but def. does not zip open around the entire top. That's the glaringly different thing to me. The Costco one is def. easy to get into the top while on a flight.
Ok and credit where credit is due. You have a fine eye.

But are you making a mountain out of a molehill? You never questioned the material. You never questioned the overall styling. You notice the market segmentation stuff. Fine. But is it material (no pun intended) in the larger context?

I echo this. I've been researching this for months. At $29.97 Costco is selling this at a loss. It costs Bagsmart a max of $25 to acquire from its factory in China which it sells to Costco at the wholesale price of ~$50+. Costco takes 12 to 18% margin and adds shipping which is why it is $64.99 online. The $29.97 is-store is one of a kind price. Grab it fast. Unbelievable value. The issue here is NOT the $29.97 price, but finding a physical Costco store that has any stock of it.I was able to get the last one in my local Costco. Heck, at $29.97, I would buy 5 pieces! Yeah, it is that an incredible value. $64.99 online is pricey.
There is no way they are selling to costco for a full turn. Those kinds of margins cant be had for selling to the likes of Walmart and costco.

In your theory, at $29.97 Costco makes 10% (its normal margin), so that means they buy it from Bagsmart at $25, which is the level at which Bagsmart makes ZERO.......ZERO profit. So, in your opinion, when did Bagsmart go into the not-for-profit business? You mean they established factories in China and went through the entire import and supply chain headaches, only to sell at ZERO profit? DREAM ON

REALITY: Almost always, warehouse/in-store clearance at COSTCO (to dispose off slow moving inventory to make space), is 100% Costco funded....Costco taking a hit. Remember, "space" in warehouse is KING.

On the other hand, COSTCO Hot Buys, Seasonal Discounts (i.e., Christmas time sales, Thanksgiving time sales, Memorial Day Sales), or the COSTCO Discounts that are in the regular Brochures that you get by mail, whether for online or warehouse purchases are 100% vendor funded.

Why do you think the online price right now ($64.99) is so much higher than $29.97 if Costco is only supposed to make 10%? Your logic is demolished in this sentence.

You shouldn't talk about logic as you dont seem to have a grasp on the concept. Your first sentence asserts that I am saying costco will make its margin at the $29 price point. I am not saying or even suggesting that. Costco may be selling at a loss there. What im saying is that whatever price costco is paying (standard pricing), the seller isnt making a markup of 100% (i.e. selling at a 50% gm).
Also, Costco average margin is higher than 10%. Also, using your numbers, if costco was using a 10% margin for a $30 selling price, they wouldn't be buying it for $25 because...thats not how math works.

Do you have the bags or are you talking from your nose?

Sometimes people are so daft even though stuff is stuck right in front of their eyes.

The ONLY difference:
1) Amazon has bundled shoe bag; Costco has bundled 4-piece compression set.
2) Amazon has an internal divider in the main compartment.

That's it! Every thing else of the main bag is identical!

Bagsmart creates market segmentation exactly for folk like you who can't tell the difference!
Why don't you take Marketing 101 and learn to open your eyes?

show me the math where Costco take a 10 to 14% margin on soft products and yet it is priced at $64.99 at Costco online.

Not the person you replied to but we have 2 and LOVE them. So easy to get into while inflight from top or like luggage when laid on its side. Very sturdy so far. Great purchase at regular Costco price, a STEAL if you can find any on clearance price.

The layout is very logical. Has everything needed for a onebagger. The main compression strap in the large compartment is useless (doesn't tighten enough). I have a couple Ospreys that I have been using and may have a tough time deciding on what to use for personal carry.
