A common complaint for this model is that the beads stop changing color after awhile.
Someone took it apart and noticed that the beads in the window, that show the color change, had become burnt which is why they stopped changing color. The beads within the unit were dry after recharging but you couldn't tell because the ones in the window lost their ability to change color. The unit had done it's job and dried out the beads after recharging but you couldn't tell. He just replaced the beads in the window with beads from within the body, which were dry, and then the unit indicated when the beads were dry again.
What likely happens is that the beads in the window get too hot from one long heating cycle. A possible fix is to dry the beads in stages, that is, plug the unit in for half the time then let the unit cool down for awhile, say an hour or so then plug it in for the rest of the heating cycle. Bothersome, yes, but not too much if a timer is used.
